Carrie’s album having a more recent release date than Kacey’s isn’t helping your point. Since it’s newer, more people should be streaming it, and yet her top tracks are mostly from older albums. We’ll see if she catches up, but I kinda doubt it. And even if she does, for Carrie, that’s a low bar to clear. Which means if she doesn’t clear it....

I love that you copied and pasted part of a dictionary definition (always a sign of someone losing the thread) which clearly states multiple factors (including power and influence, which GH has and CP does not) as relevant to success, which is literally the my point. So thanks? People will cite GH as an influence in experimental country-pop for years, and Kacey will continue growing in popularity. Carrie will... continue to decline.

What? Citing a definition is losing the argument? You can't accuse Carrie of declining while overlooking that every full studio album by Kacey declined in sales. If one song from 2005 overshadows the entire discography of Kacey you can't claim that Kacey dominates especially if you want to claim her as some kind of influential, generation-defining country star. There are still two songs off of Carries latest album in her top 5 most listened songs btw. Also: IT WAS NOT ABOUT 2018 ALONE! WE WERE SUPPOSED TO LOOK AT SEVERAL YEARS! Read the OP again if you want to. No one in the right mind would actually doubt that Carrie has the better position and as for Kacey, if you get pushed by the entire industry and you still can't even sell 150.000 measly copies you have lost the right to claim the #1 spot.

First off, I'm a huge Carrie fan. I've seen her 6 times in concert. Going again for the Cry Pretty Tour. However, just in terms of relevance at this moment, Kacey is who all the girls and gays are talking about right now. Just imagine if she were to release a pop leaning album for the next era. Add her relevancy to her current success and Grammy nods, there's no way to not put her at #1.

As with Carrie, idk. I thought Cry Pretty was going to be a turnaround for her. Maybe it's because she had a baby this past week or that her new label is screwing her over.. I just feel like her team is relying on the same promo and campaigns that she was doing 10 years ago. Because she is my fav I'm going to be a bit more critical. Carrie's relevancy has dwindled with the past few album cycles. I blame that on her label as well as career decisions regarding her singles and whatnot(ie. Storyteller singles receiving piss poor videos....). Spinning Bottles at the AMAs?!?! Like really? Idk, I just wish Carrie would do some type of The Middle collab to put her in the spotlight again. I remember when T-Pain of all people wanted to collab with her. There's a lot that I can say.

It's also crazy that her team couldn't even get Cry Pretty(her lead single) to the top of the country charts. Especially for someone who has had a crazy amount of success on the country charts. Yes Carrie is still getting #1 albums(with tour bundles), but that's purely off of her fanbase and not the GP. I've also noticed that Carrie's likability is terrible. Every single time she's on a talk show or doing an interview people are always turned off(#1 being that the only thing people remember about her from last year was her injury.). She's not exciting enough right now. She's not giving people a reason to cheer for her.

We all know why the radio doesn't push her. They want to spin faceless bro country instead of good songs which is why Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan, Dylan Scott and so many more have more success than any other country artist. This is not her nor her label's fault.

That's true. There are only 2 women in the Top 30 right now. But radio is just one critique i have.

She's a country artist. Some kind of decline would've happened eventually but being angry about several platinum-selling albums that didn't perform well singles wise because Country has huge problems with streaming and youtube is a bit ridiculous. Don't expect too much from her considering that she is nearly fifteen years into her career and still has a career. Not a lof of country artists can say that or do you remember a lot of country artists that debuted around 2005 and still get certificated albums. Kacey can't even manage to get one now eventhough she gets more hype with every new album.

Yeah, everyone has declined in sales since 2005. Including Carrie. This is what I mean when I say sales are irrelevant. And comparing Carrie in 2005 to Kacey in 2018/19 makes you sound like a Madonna stan comparing Like a Prayer sales to Born This Way sales. Times change, and metrics do to. I sense that you are a Carrie stan and that’s cool, but objectively the numbers aren’t amazing, and the cultural impact is next to 0.

But if you think the biggest female country star of this generation selling a measly 100k more (all through bundles lol) than the upstart is “dominance” well... more power to ya!

But I calculated all of Kacey's album debuts TOGETHER(the 155.000 copies!) against one album by Carrie. GH debut numbers were 49.000 copies and the 141.000 copies are all sales of GH COMBINED. Selling out Kacey in a ratio x2.8 is still massive enough. You can't blame all her sales on tour bundles.

Carrie at her lowest still overpowers Kacey effortlessly is my entire point. That is also dominance.

Yes some sort of decline is normal, but I feel like the overall choices have been indeed choices.. and yes, steaming is a problem for Carrie, but we have seen new artists start gaining ground with certain platforms. And yes, I do put some of that on her label. Again, Spinning Bottles at the AMAS?... People just aren't here for Carrie right now. At least not until she puts something worth the time for many young people. Because they aren't sold.

Kacey is still new. Like I said in my previous post, if she leans more pop with the next album, expect her label to push her more. Her rise to fame is slow, but it's working for her. And in today's industry, relevancy is more important that certificates. Carrie hasn't really gotten many certificates this era tbh.

Carrie is just a more conservative artist than Kacey. It's just funny that the biggest complaint critics have about her is that she's too poppy but at the same time creaming themselves over Kacey's GH. If you ask me, Kacey doesn't have the lows of Carrie, concerning songs, but she also doesn't have the highs. Blown Away, Cry Pretty, Spinning Bottles, Choctaw County Affair are all better songs and I cared enough I would find a lot more. Something which I also find very endearing about Carrie is that she has fun on her albums, Cupids Got A Shotgun, Last Name, One Way Ticket, Somethin' Bad (with Miranda Lambert). She mixes the female power fantasy with genuinely soul-crushing ballads, love songs and fun pop tracks. It can turn out well on some albums (Blown Away, Cry Pretty, Storyteller) or it goes horribly wrong (Play On). Kacey finds a perfect balance so you never walk away unsatisfied while Carrie's personality sometimes leaves a sour taste in your mouth (but that's because she actually has a ton of personality)

And that's great, but at the end of the day it's about who is trending and is getting the attention of people. Because Carrie's team isn't helping. No Grammy nods, her singles are somewhat stalling, etc. Carrie does have a wider range than compared to Kacey. But clearly people just aren't tuning into Carrie right now. Maybe Carrie will come back with Drinking Alone with an amazing video. Who knows. But you can't disregard the consumer and trends which are focusing on Kacey at the moment. And if she wins AOTY I'm sure it'll be interesting where she goes from there.

I agree. I really hope that Drinking Alone will be the next single because it deserves it and would fit perfectly into the dismal pop/ country scene right now. But releasing Love Wins was also a good idea in my book because of the huge massive hook that just takes you in. We'll see what happens next. Just don't release the song with the overlong and most embarrassing title ever :selena:

TBH most of them look and sound the same. Their brand of pop country is soooo predictable and boring. Any one of their singles could be on anyone of their albums, with a few exeptions. Kacey Musgraves is actually really talented and I like her. Miranda lambert's the house that built me is also a nice song. Other than that they may have catchy tunes, but they are no musical geniuses there.
