Free college tuition (to a point) healthcare, and quite a few other thing. Also people seeking some form of strictness and order may go there. I agree that presence is unnecessary in places like the Middle East and is the reason why relations with that region are so hostile, but if the U.S. wasn’t providing support and protection over in places like South Korea or Guam, then they would get invaded by their enemies. Not to mention, no one will even need a military when every country is developed or will be friends with a developed country. I mean, yes, the government was paying for actively serving trans people’s operations which I believe they shouldn’t be paying for an elective surgery but that’s no reason to ban trans people from serving, it’s the definition of discrimination & they should’ve just passed a law or something saying that they wouldn’t pay for elective surgeries instead. Not to mention, it’s more than just a ban, it is saying to Trump supporters that discrimination & the hateful behavior associated with it is ok & that will lead to more discrimination just like his presidency has lead to an increase in hate crimes. SMH Most transgender persons are now disqualified from military service except: - Service members who have been stable for 3 years in their biological sex prior to joining the military -- meaning 36 months after completion of surgery and hormone treatments. - Service members diagnosed with "gender dysphoria" after joining the military can stay in the military if they don't require a change of gender and remain deployable. Gender dysphoria involves a conflict between a person's physical or assigned gender and the gender with which the person identifies, according to the American Psychiatric Association. - Service members who were diagnosed with "gender dysphoria" before the effective date of the policy can still serve and receive medical treatment. - Transgender persons without a gender dysphoria diagnosis or history can serve in their birth sex. By the government's own numbers in 2016, there were approximately 8,980 Service members that identify as transgender. During the Obama administration, 937 members were diagnosed with gender dysphoria and began or completed their transition. I fell down the stairs once as an actor. It's actually sick if you think about it. It’s also a job or a career. Many people use it for free training. You do get paid a salary with excellent benefits and get free rent for your family. The schools on bases are an excellent and safe education for your kids. You can retire will your still young and get another job with your training and make a very good living. I know several people who are doing very well economically because they used the military for schooling, training, resume building or early retirement.
