And thats how it should be since the beginning. Whats wrong with popgirls tryna experiment and do a little rap. If Ari cant do rap then no rappers can do pop songs. Please come for Nicki, eminem, etc. And by the way, Miley got bashed bc she trashed hip hop culture after moving on to her next eras.

People and their self made dramas these days :laughga:

It’s not really the same. Pop isn’t a genre. Rap is, with a black struggle history background, and when you see white people getting more recognition for it than black folks, you get that something is not okay.

I mean, back in the 90s Mariah faced backlash for releasing black influenced music, and she’s black! But, because it’s little innocent Ariana with a fake ass tan, she gets away with it.

then give black folks the recognition you think they deserve, instead of boycotting white people because they're getting the attention(?). it's like "i hatE yOu beCausE youRe WinNing" childish attitude.

edit: and pop is a genre.

I don’t think you understood what I was saying. I didn’t say she couldn’t do rap I was pointing out the double standard with Miley/iggy and Ariana. And Miley didn’t even trash hip hop culture, she trashed some of the themes she felt were getting tired.

i get it and my point was, it was a shame how people treated iggy and miley, and its about time for a change. Culture doesn't strictly 'belong' to a certain group. yes it ORIGINATED somewhere but you can't ban people from paying a tribute to it. Even certain culture is a mixture of several different cultures.

tl;dr : 'cultural appropriation' is a stupid concept and should not be a thing anymore at this point.

I'm not sure why social media isn't keeping the same energy.

I seem to recall Bruno Mars --a brown skinned puerto rican/filipino man with naturally curly hair-- being ripped to shreds for making R&B music and his existence being problematic.

Yet, the lily white girl from a Florida suburb who changed her appearance overnight to look like a brown/black IG baddie is unscathed? While sounding like Woah Vicky? What is going on?

What I don’t like about cultural appropriation is that it has nothing to do with culture but race. No one gives a **** if an ethnically Vietnamese person decides to wear traditional Japanese clothing, but if it’s an ethnically Greek person it’s offensive. Also people who use the term “Black/White/etc. culture” (and claim specific things belong to a whole race) are extremely uneducated to me. Culture doesn’t exist within races but within civilizations or distinct ethnic groups. Which is why it’s good Gaga credits African Americans for jazz (Although she could’ve gone more specific by saying Creoles...) instead of an entire race.

exactly :fthis:

and the truth is no one gives a f because the majority of people usually like when people appreciate their culture. people are just salty bc some white artists can be more successful then their black counterparts (and no im not white).
