Lady Gaga needs to condemn R Kelly

What's holding her back? I really don't get it? Isn't so easy just to say "I'm sorry,  I'm with the victims" and be done with it?  It's like she can't say it out of fear R Kelly could retaliate and leak something? I'm just trying to find a logical answer

She definitely needs to, there is no reason not to and we can’t  pretend her cancelling a music video without an official statement is any type of protest against R Kelly. I don’t know what she’s playing at.

Maybe her agreement with working with him contained legal stipulations and R. Kelly could sue her. We don't know all the facts...

This is snowballing very fast and it’s going to bite her in the ass. She looks like a ****ing hypocrite and this is just going to turn into 2014 all over again. She needs to do something. AND she’s still following him on twitter.

Gaga does not call out individuals publicly.  It just stirs up more negativity and hatred which she is totally against.  She stands with Gandhi.  Check out 15:23 in this old interview.  This is very old, but she has been consistent with her beliefs in positivity and love.

She directly called out Dr. Luke to free Kesha - a peer of hers - and he is a man who she never even worked or collaborated with. Why are you forging history and why can’t she speak now?

She doesn’t even have to condemn R. Kelly. A simple “I recognize after reflecting for some time that this collaboration was inappropriate given the context. I stand by the courageous victims and survivors in this situation and I apologize to anyone offended.”

It is T H A T simple.

It's very unlikely that she is being blacked mailed, or has a NDA with him.

She knows that no matter what she says people will be unsatisfied with her response. Inevitably there will be a loud minority of people demanding more from her.

It's like coming out. You tell yourself you are waiting for the right moment, but in reality you are just pushing off addressing the issue because your scared of the potential ramifications.

She mentioned in her defense back in 2013, that she believes they had a bond that "untrue things were written about them." Not sure if her allegations were ever as bad as what R. Kelly has been accused of. I wonder if she still feels that way.

honestly, she should just admit she fked up and move on, I realised she very rarely publicly admits to her mistakes and it does get a little annoying

I was discussing this with another member via messages last night and I'm going to copy + paste what I said to him:

"Honestly, after this doc aired a lot of people won't be able to look at her the same way and I can't blame them. Gaga went viral just a few months ago for standing up for victims like Dr. Ford; she went out of her way to being inserted into the Kesha mess (even though she never worked with Luke or was friends with her before that); not to mention she was angry because Katy wouldn't speak up   But in 5 YEARS she couldn't address the R. Kelly controversy? She's looking like a hypocrite right now.

She honestly got away with the TIHTY campaign because her profile was low and nobody really gave a **** about this R. Kelly scandal before this doc. Now that she's no longer the underdog she'll be facing the same backlash that artists like Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran face for basically existing."

That being said, I feel like people are going overboard, and the focus should be R. Kelly.

This is true, too. People will probably slam her whatever she does. It doesn't help that CNN called her out specifically.

We all have made mistakes in the past, but Gaga needs to say something sooner rather than later.

Obviously her actions of support and her vocalness on sexual abuse victims are not seen as enough.

Unfortunately Gaga was/is a big fan of R Kelly, but there are times when you have to separate art and the artist.

While I do think a statement would be nice, I personally feel like a lot of her actions (cutting off the initial DWUW promotion, working with sexual assault survivors directly, sexual assault PTSD awareness, activism) speak for themselves.

Unfortunately, for a lot of people, that is not enough. I'm not sure what her and her team's plan is, surrounding this, but I hope it works.

Odd, though, that people will be like "we're not just targeting Gaga, we're targeting everybody who didn't speak out on this" but they're... mostly targeting her. Makes sense, since she's in the limelight right now. I don't know. I also agree that a well-thought and eloquent statement would do wonders.
