Football fans heading to Qatar are in for a shock when they go purchase a beer.
The Gulf state has added 100 per cent to the cost of alcohol – meaning a crate of 24 beers now sell for £82 and a bottle of gin cost £73. The cost of a bottle of wine, such as 750ml of South African Shiraz now set to cost £18.53. The same wine in Tesco costs about £7.

The move comes after the state announced plans to tax “health-damaging goods” in its budget several weeks ago.

The Ministry of Finance said this in a statement last month: “The Selective Tax law is designed to impose taxes on certain health-damaging goods and it will be implemented by the beginning of 2019.

Finally football (soccer:awkney:) will be civilized :laughga:

Well, there are many problems with the World Cup be in Qatar, especially when it's discriminating LGBTQ people.

But with this one I think there's nothing to complain about, it's their culture not to drink alcohol so as long as we are visiting their country, we need to follow their rules of culture... just like we are asking them to respect ours when they come to our countries.. but they don't forbids it completely, you can still buy it, just pay unrealistic amount of money..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

This is the Qatar that's holding the world cup at a time of the year when it's 40 degrees Celsius outside?

Gay fans going to the world cup could receive 420 lashes (whipping) and 5 years in prison for being gay. There's a plan by Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait and a couple of other countries to ban gay fans from entering Qatar.

Although a Dutch politician has proposed that the entire Dutch kit be changed to pink in protest :trollga:

Yes. Qatar gets extremely hot, even in December when they're holding it. But the thing is all the stadiums that are being built/renovated to be used in the games will all have a special AC system to keep it cool for the players and fans

Still, people can die of exhaustion or dehydration at any time of the year in Qatar

I know that, but it's not related to topic and it's pretty bad situation and needs to be solved, but football never cared about gays so I'm not expecting anything from the world about it..

What I think is ridiculous is that they've permitted alcohol for the tournament (it's normally banned completely), even though their religion says it's a sin, and yet they can't permit homosexuality for the tournament even though Islam considers them both to be sins
