The QUEEN is one of the most popular band of ALL TIME,OK?

So is ABBA  And Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises of all time, that didn't help its latest film :rip: Whitney's biopic released this year didn't even gross 5 million. Steve Jobs' biopic was equally disappointing. You need more than a big name. You can't just automatically cash 702 million dollars based off a name :air:

The movie had a massive campaign and had fantastic word of mouth advertising. The public loved that flim, despite what the critics said.

Don't put this one into equation, fam. You clearly don't understand why it fails.  Solo don't do well because large chunk of the fanbase are boycotting it after they felt being betrayed and done wrongly with Episode 8: Last Jedi movie. Because they wanted Kathleen Kennedy to be fired. Otherwise it will do great as usual. If you didn't know before, now you did.

That's one reason, but it's not the only one lol

I know, I'm not saying it didn't do amazingly, it did. But it's not the most successful musical of the year, or of recent years. Bohemian Rhapsody's tremendous success can't only be explained by the biographical argument :smh:

Anyway, I'm not trying to put it down, not at all. But it's not exactly a gag worthy result. I know you all like to point out how much the movie cost but to me that's not relevant. A film's budget does not automatically affect how many people want to buy tickets (as we've seen this year more than anything, look at Solo).

lmao it is a gag worthy result. The luckiest estimations were expecting 140M max in the US. Imagine reading these results in mid July.

But what is your point kid? Why would Bohemian Rhapsody gag worthy numbers diminish ASIB's gag worthy numbers?

It is the biggest musical of the year in the US. A Star Is Born has never been a huge hit outside the US and this iteration (fourth one) also brought (and it's still not over) a huge revenue from Europe and Australia. If it wins the Oscar it will be the most succesful BP winner in a while, maybe since Titanic or Shakespeare in Love.

How is it not gag worthy? 90% of this cult site was convinced that it'd flop. And it made more than 10x its budget.

Can we have a list based on net profit? Gross of $392 isn't alot for a movie with a $300 budget.

Mama Mia had a budget of 75, grossed slightly more than ASIB so net profit lower.

Rampage budgeted $140 and took $428 so the net profit is lower.

The grinch budgeted $75 and turnover was $469 so only beating out ASIB slightly.

ASIB offered an incredible return on investment for the backers. Truly sensational.

When you factor in other things like the money WB are getting from the soundtrack success (which the other movies don't have... other than MM, really) the movie has been top 5 most successful money makers of the year.

Yep this is also how studios cast their leading men and women. By who can make them the most money. Just saying.

Gaga is now a big star at the WB and will more than likely be offered some great roles in other types of movies.

Angelina Jolie and Meryl could never.

I thoust ASIB was a costaring roll? Cooper and Gaga both as leads.

Well, because La La Land made more profit with a smaller budget compared to ASIB and nobody talks about that movie as a commercial triumph regardless of it being the underdog early on :rip: It's impressive success to be sure, but other movies simply do better and that should be acknowledged as well and not just waved away with some "yeah but it's superheroes" excuse, that's just my opinion.

That being said, I already explicitly stated ASIB had an amazing commercial run, so I'm not saying any of this to put down its success. I just think a lot of Gaga fans have lost the plot when it comes to exaggerating the cultural/commercial relevance of this film :smh: Let's see if it's still being talked about in two years, I guarantee you it won't be, not even if it almost wins an Oscar (like La La Land).

Everytime someone makes an achievement thread about Gaga, you ALWAYS need to find something negative about it. Just enjoy her success now...And i didn't know you were some kind of psychic. And the "superhero" excuse is an actual excuse if you even bother to look at the facts that almost every major superhero movie grosses about 100 million in like a week.

Because people wanna see those movies lol. A lot more than musicals. Why do you guys think of that as a defeat or a ‘negative’? It’s not, it’s simply reality :air:

I am enjoying Gaga’s success, I don’t have to put others’ success down in order to do that though, thank God...

StrawberryBlond

It did great for its budget and remember that its gross still isn't over yet. It was released in Poland and Denmark less than a month ago and Japan has not long got it. It just needs another $5.1 million worldwide to topple Mamma Mia, I believe, which would be a huge coup considering that Mamma Mia has an established fanbase, contains songs that are already classics, had a massive all-star cast, bigger budget, lower age rating and extensive advertising. It really has blown past all its expectations. To see it right up there with the big earners consisting of the standard superhero and animated kids movie fare, is incredible. Just goes to show that movie aimed at females can make money, if they're marketed correctly.

Of course you're not...

It was a smash, exceeded expectations and had a hugely successful album. It is likely to win several awards and hit the top spot in most countries. Its success is even more astonishing and gag-worthy considering it is the 'meat dress girls' first major film. I think you just like to disagree for the sake of it half the time 😴

I don't disagree with any of that though, ironically :rip:

I just hoped it could beat La La Land and Bohemian Rhapsody (did not expect the latter to smash at all). As much as I am impressed with the film's success, I wish it ranked higher than third on the list of successful musicals this year.
