The Negativity (about Enigma)

It looks like a great show, I love the aesthetic and stage, and judging by the videos I've seen, she sounds amazing and is dancing the most I have seen her dance in years (other than the Superbowl). Everyone on this site is a whiner...there's always a trillion negative things to be said.

I understand but from an art critique standpoint enigma is not artistic, original, or anything new. sometimes others are more qualified to make such critiques but for the people who inappropriately idolize gaga and project their own feelings onto her they need to defend her at all costs. I want to see gaga because I love some of the art that she's created because she's.. an artist. this is messy, not fully fleshed out, bad styling, even poorer makeup, show pacing, and staging are all bad and thats an objective fact. the best part was that the choreography was more involved than ive seen. but she also really lacked stage presence or any kind of connection. she's been through alot but I dont really care because thats not my business. what y'all need to understand is someone pointing out that it felt a lil half-assed isnt a negative opinion its just the facts. you can look at it from an optimistic perspective as well but this from a technical standpoint isnt it. I HOPE that it evolves as time goes on but its a bit much in all the wrong ways right now..

Head Empty

My initial reaction was negative as well, but I've rewatched the show a few times by now and my opinion has nuanced a bit - especially after watching it in full.

The show flows incredibly well. The story isn't mindblowing by any means, but it does its job very well at piecing the different segments together. Gaga's performance is great, and despite what some people are saying I'm surprised by how physically involved she is with the choreographed pieces. All in all it's one of her best shows on a technical level.

I can still get behind some of the disappointment on a creative level though - even when disregarding personal taste. For an artist that has continuously provided us with new concepts, esthetics and ideas, this show doesn't really add anything new to the body of work that Gaga has already created. Which is completely fine - there's no need to reinvent the wheel every time. But it's what a lot of people have come to expect from her over the years.

And sure, it's her first residency show and there's different logistics when doing a theater show like this compared to arena tours. But that's all irrelevant when you consider how Gaga could make the smallest of props into statement pieces - ranging from a disco stick or a bubble dress to a mechanical bull or a pink cowboy hat. And it's that creative poignancy and Gaga's forward-thinking spirit that seems missing so far.

Again, I definitely like the show and I think it's an amazing stand-alone accomplishment. But I can understand some of the more negative perspectives when placing it in the context of her previous growth as an artist.

Whispering

Lol, the OGHs are pretending they watched the show just so they can “be disappointed”.

Their opinions are predictable. Just ignore them and look at the actual reviews and read about people who actually go see the show live. The majority will love it!

I just don’t get it anymore. I feel bad for Gaga. I would genuinely have told my fans to **** off after all these years if they treated me like this. This woman has literally broken her hip for us and yet we criticize EVERYTHING she does whilst it is clear that this show was meant for us to be pleased.. :smh:

Hi guys, im new here, plz guide me if i done something wrong

For me, I think people can have an opinion, don't you think she or her PR will notice this?

That's it .

she made the concept long time ago. she cant change her concept in short time. ( maybe some variables can change eg. setlist)

Personally, I just need something fresh that we can remember from this show, even it just 1.

Welcome to GGD. :)

Where did you find the concert in full?  I've seen videos of nine songs.

THE ONLY THING I'd change is hair and makeup. I'd replace this sh**ty wig with some long, more natural looking hairstyle and I'd keep this blue color since it's epic. I'd also make the makeup less drag-queen bust still edgy. And maybe replaced some outfits, but that's all. :huntyga: The whole rest is wonderful

I think a lot of fans are over exaggerating whatever flaws the show had. That’s to be expected because as long as I’ve been a Gaga fan this has been a really dramatic fanbase. :laughga: I honestly do feel a bit bad for Gaga, though. Sure she’s probably used to the criticism by now, but it still has to sting a little when she reads so many overwhelmingly negative comments about something she worked so hard on and was so excited for.

It may drive her into retirement, from pop at least.  She doesn't need the money, so why should she put up with all the negativity.  She loves jazz, she can do country, but she did a pop show to please her fans.  I envision a future in Broadway, more movies, and jazz.  And that's plenty, considering there's marriage and children on the horizon.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I'm still gagged that everyone seems to forget that this is the first night and people are judging it like it's not going to improve like every tour she's done in the past or pretending that she's gonna quit music because a small handful of fans are moaning.

Legit, there's a reason she's been here for a decade and has a f*cking Vegas residency.  I'm critical, and was extremely critical during ARTPOP but if you can't see the potential here then... well, you're blind.
