President Trump on Friday threatened to "close the Southern Border entirely" if Democrats do not agree to provide money to "finish" building a wall on the Mexican border.

Trump made the threat as a partial government shutdown enters its seventh day with no end in sight.

The shutdown began on Saturday after Democrats rejected demands from Trump that $5 billion be included for the wall in a measure to keep the government open.

"We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with," the president tweeted.

He also criticized past presidents and Congresses over the nation's current immigration laws.

"Hard to believe there was a Congress & President who would approve!"

I don't agree with the current administration on most things (I think) but I don't see why borders shouldn't be closed. Not just the US. Any nation on this planet. Make the immigration laws easier instead. I waited 14 long years to get to live in the US. That's ridiculous. Thinking back about it now. The amount of money my grandmother spent with immigration is insane.

My grandfather had to report to a ny immigration office every 3 months with a signed document from his employer and proof of rent payments for 4 years before he was allowed to leave NY state at all....

This demanding the us help illegals sickens me....

Funding a larger staff to process lawful applicants makes the most sense to me tho...the wall isn't gonna be very effective.

It's all based in racism

Trump supporters so worried about jobs all the time, but now tons of people aren't getting paid because of Trump's shutdown. "But that's okay because it's all in an effort to keep the darker skinned people out of the US."

Shut the border? That would cause an economic meltdown

This over $5 billion that is a drop in the bucket for the US but still a stupid cause

My main issue with the wall is not the upfront cost, but the long term monetary commitment in terms of its up-keeping. It’s not as if we simply build the wall and that’s all taxpayers have to deal with.

Who’s going to pay for maintaining the wall for decades?

Who’s going to pay for necessary patrolling to where to wall is actually effective?

^^^These are the questions I want the president to actually answer.

This may get me dragged on this website, but I don’t think this is a fair statement. I would actually argue his own ego as well as a hunger for further political power are contributing more to his never-ceasing bickering to get this wall. If ditching the idea for a wall could guarantee another political win for himself (and indirectly his business ventures), I honestly think he would ditch the wall idea in a heartbeat.

I meant the cost in relation to the size of the debate and problems it's bringing

A small cut in military would pay for this

A physical wall in the desolate areas would reduce the need for patrols in those areas...

Increasing the personal who process legal immigrant entries into the US would create jobs and reduce the volume of illegal crossing attemps....

Plus increase the labor pool and add beneficial populus....

It's an allocation of resources that needs to be reassesed... not racial exclusion that's the issue here.
