40% of European Jews consider leaving Europe due to antisemitism

Close to 40 per cent of European Jews have considered leaving their home countries over the past five years because of rising anti-Semitism, according to a poll released on Monday. 

Of those who said they had considered emigration, two-thirds said they had considered moving to Israel. One in 10 had considered the US and another tenth had considered a move to a different EU country.

The survey, which was conducted by the EU agency for fundamental rights (FRA), highlights growing concern among Jewish communities in Europe, with almost 90 per cent of respondents saying that anti-Semitism has increased since 2013. 

The Jewish community in France — which has suffered a number of high-profile deadly attacks in recent years — appears to have been especially shaken: almost 80 per cent of French Jews told pollsters that anti-Semitism in the country had “increased a lot”, the highest proportion in Europe. But there was also a marked deterioration in Germany, where 44 per cent of Jews said they had thought about emigrating, up from 25 per cent five years ago. 

Asked about the perpetrators of the most anti-Semitic incidents, 31 per cent of respondents said they were not able to identify the assailant,  21 per cent who said the attacker had been “someone with a leftwing political view”.

I don’t think we should joke in this case, because these are horrific statistics. And I don’t think it’s funny at all to say that Jews should just move to Azerbaijan. 

Azerbaijan is a good example for a country that works against antisemitism.

I'm jew and I moved from France about 10 years ago.. 

Nowdays the antisemic community in Europe is just horrifing.. poor guys

Difficult to say. Few years ago I would say Berlin and Paris, but there were a lot incidents there as well. It’s difficult to say. 

If I need to name a city I’d say Sarajevo.

Where are you from? The survey took place in countries with major Jewish communities in Europe. (90% of all European Jews) It might be your country wasn’t part of the survey. 

Also, just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist

Just out of curiosity do you know how Antwerp is doing? I am from Belgium and I know their is a large old jewish community there

This is absolutely appalling. I am a Jew living in New York State and feel so fortunate to feel welcomed by everybody. I would assume there's a correllation between both neo-Nazism and increased Muslim migration and antisemitism. I know plenty of Muslims, but all of them have been here (or their families) for at least a generation, and have assimilated fine. It's when they don't (or become radicalized) that the problem arises. And of course Nazis don't help.

In Belgium was deadly attack in a Jewish museum and some people screamed “death to all Jews” in front of the European Parliament. Antisemitism rose in 2014 by 50%. In Anderlecht was a synagogue set on Fire and a butcher said he would serve dogs but not Jews. Many Jews want to leave Belgium

Also the city @Melech mentions (Sarajevo) appears to Muslim-majority, but I don't think many of them are immigrants from countries like Somalia or Iraq.

This is definitely a problem that has rapidly increased in the past five years or so.
