RPDR AS4: lowest numbers since S7

Low numbers. Why?

  1. 1. What is the cause of this?

    • People being tired of the show (repetitive)
      11
    • The lack of star power this season
      10
    • Timing (people too busy with Xmas + too close to AS3 & S10)
      31
    • Boycott towards Ru and the production (treatment of queens, lack of women)
      3
    • All of the above

With about 513 000 viewers, it's the lowest known numbers of an All-Star season (AS1: ?, AS2: 584k, AS3: 895k),
and the lowest since S7, which had 348k (S8: ?, S9: 987k, S10: 785k)

Considering it's an All-Star season, which is supposed to be more popular since it involves some fan-favourites, it's some pretty low numbers. Also, the show has become somewhat mainstream, so it's surprising that the numbers are not at least on-par with the others season.

What do you think would explain such a drop? vote and sound off below

Spoiler

Personally I've decided to stop watching the show from now on, due to Rupaul's attitude towards queens, during and after the show (Pearl's case); the lack of innovation, the seasons that are too close to one another, and the shameless discrimination for new women (trans included) contestants.

I personally think it due to last minute promo. I feel like promo for A3 started early while A4 started mid November

All of the above. But I truly wish the show was on Netflix. A lot of young people who watch or could watch don't pay for cable these days.

I think it’s lack of star power... also, YouTube videos get more views than that, like, why does mainstream media not understand that free content is the way to go. If they would release it on YouTube or Netflix or some streaming service that you didn’t have to pay for they would be getting way more views especially since people could go back & watch previous seasons easier. They would make a sh*t ton through ad revenue but mainstream media wanna keep thinking their business model works so...

personally, I love the show, so I am watching but I am less excited this time because more than half of the queens don't interest me, a few of them are too new to be all stars, and a few are too week altogether

Trixie Mattel win.

Just kidding. All of the reasons you pointed out make sense but it's also true that AS3 was a mess and AS2 is probably the most known RPDR season meanwhile AS3 only brought negative backlash which means we'll have to get on board based on AS4's own merits, not last season's ones

I think it's how common All Stars has become, to the point where there are a few "all stars" and so many fillers.

I love drag race and drag in general but I think it’s because Latrice and Manila excluded they’ve now ran out of the peak DR fan favourites to bring back, and now they’re left with most of the queens known for looks and memes.

Like AS2 was peak drag race, and it deserved the views AS3 got, if you had swapped out a few queens for one another AS2 would’ve had all the biggest and best Ru girls in one season.

And then All Stars worked when it was an enigma (:trollga:) and we didn’t know if or when another season was coming, like the hype around AS2 was YEARS in the making after all. In my opinion they SHOULD NOT do another all stars for at least another 2 seasons or maybe more, and do AS5 as an all winners season with the 12 main season winners

Bad timing! I dont think it lacks star power compared to AS3. Its just that AS3 was not that long ago, All Stars seasons should be special and not become an annual thing

too many seasons this year, lackluster AS3, Jennifer Lewis isn't a big name for the yt gays (like xtina for 10 and gaga for 9 were) to draw crowds, and this close to Christmas doesn't feel like the opportune time to air a show (most other shows are on their winter hiatus i'm pretty sure?) seem like some major factors
