Angel Down Hate?

I understand the hate for a lot of songs that I like.

For example I love MANiCURE, but I understand why some people would find it bland, uninteresting etc. It’s got below average lyrics and the ma-ma-ma again, you get the memo.

I also understand why some people like the songs that I don’t. Maybe you find Just Dance and The Cure just the right song to dance to, I get it. They are better than other pop songs on radio.

But I just can’t understand the flaws of Angel Down and Dope. Actually, Dope I can understand to a degree, I absolutely worship the song but maybe this vocal style is not for everyone?

Angel Down I don’t understand. I’ve had a good amount of musical education, but objectively I can’t find any flaws. It’s killing me.

- Its lyrics are far above Gaga’s average

- It has a decent melody and interesting but soothing instrumental

- Gaga delivers vocals

- The outro gives the chills

- The chord progression is not exactly unique but not generic

So what’s wrong? Why is there a part of this cult site that just dislikes this track? I am confusion. Gagarica explain.

I love the song, one of my personal favourites from Joanne. I understand that people may not enjoy it, but it's my type of music with beautiful and humanitarian-like lyrics that I love.

I adore both songs but I have to say that Dope is far superior to Angel Down. I actually prefer the Work Tape over the album version because it actually has flavor and doesn't get dragged down by mediocre music. I would place Dope into my Top 3 favorite Gaga songs while the Work Tape probably reaches my top 20 :staymad:

How? I don’t understand  Even my only-hip-hop-loving friends enjoy angel down, it’s like the only Gaga song I’ve recommended that they liked.

They both have great lyrics and amazing vocals. Dope is the weird sister here, but Angel Down should be the objectively good one. Except it’s not, which is what I still don’t get

I think that a lot of people may be oblivious to the lyrical meanings, or just class the song as "boring". It's subject to opinion, but I personally love it. I suppose it's similar to many people here disliking "Come to Mama".

I don't hate the song but it doesn't do much for me. I get more emotional when I listen to TEOG.

I'm not talking about the lyrics here because even really stupid people know that the lyrics of these two songs are fantastic and rarely matched in the music industry and even Gaga herself. When it comes down to preference people tend to focus on the music and if we talk about music Dope is just more challenging and edgier than Angel Down (and Work Tape for that matter). Sometimes challenging your listener enhances the experience and with Dope it definitely did.

Harris Walz 2024

If a song speaks to you, to who you are, what you've been through or what you empathize with, just enjoy it on your own terms. People try to dissect songs and guess what, you're never gonna find it's soul. The heart and soul of a song lies within you.

I appreciate the rawness but at the same time it's like too raw, kind of spineless even, makes me feel like my stomach is full of soap and I need to throw up, like there's emotion that builds up and no release, it dizzies you like rotten candy-perfumed brandy

but I guess that's exactly what she was going for because although the work tape version sounds bolder and more satisfying it doesn't really compliment the despair of the lyrics

Because it's not "Gaga", that's why :triggered:

I personally love the song, I just don't play it a whole lot cause I love other songs too :ladyhaha:
