Hillary Clinton: "Europe must curb immigration to stop rightwing populists"

Europe must get a handle on immigration to combat a growing threat from rightwing populists, Hillary Clinton has said, calling on the continent’s leaders to send out a stronger signal showing they are “not going to be able to continue to provide refuge and support”.

In an interview with the Guardian, the former Democratic presidential candidate praised the generosity shown by the German chancellor, Angela Merkel, but suggested immigration was inflaming voters and contributed to the election of Donald Trump and Britain’s vote to leave the EU.

“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” Clinton said, speaking as part of a series of interviews with senior centrist political figures about the rise of populists, particularly on the right, in Europe and the Americas.

“I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message – ‘we are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support’ – because if we don’t deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic.”

I agree. It is sad seeing Europe being turned into another Middle East. Not to the mention that leftists who support immigration the most will also suffer the most.

Yikes. But wouldn’t you benefit from it? Wouldn’t you like to live in the West?

If it is another ME, I wouldn’t. I don’t care about the economic advantages in a country of Middle Eastern majority-like mentality.

Clinton: "Okay, Europe should definitely build a wall to stop the immigrants. It can be made out of paper copies of every email I've ever deleted..."

Tea. I appreciate Hilary for speaking what every sane person knows even tho its not p.c.

Every right leaning centrist* who wants to appeal to white supremacy.

Considering what Israel did to refugees, I’m not surprised you agree they should be turned back.

True... immigration has caused a spike in right wing populism, and it's fueled by crimes related to immigration. As a gay man, I feel threatened by both.

I don’t understand why most leftists are very pro-immigration.

What is so good about filling up progressive countries with millions of people who believe that women should be covered from head to tie next to their almost naked husbands?

People are equal. Cultures aren’t. Some countries are still living in the middle ages. I don’t see how millions of people from countries where the majority believe that LGBT should be killed or undergo therapy could integrate in populations where majority support same-sex marriage. How would not this cause a rise in right-wing support?

Non-white immigration*. And you’re gonna win them by giving them what they want? You think they will stop there?

US example show us it’s not true.

How many refugees they took last year? Did that decrease or increase hate crimes by white nationalists?

Personally, I'm on the fence.  I don't like her reasoning because it's basically caving into what populists want :laughga:

I support a stricter immigration system that allows people in on merit or their ability to support themselves and contribute to society.

We should help people seeking asylum but there needs to be a screening on how they would fit into our society.  We can't allow people into our societies that are a danger to our people such as extremists; whether it be nazis, islamic... whatever.  If they are not safe for our communities, we need to grant them asylum but keep them separate from everyone else until they are able to return to their country.

Right wing doesn’t give a damn about same sex marriage, in fact they’re against it and against abortions. They are not for women rights. They’re using them to make their own people racist and angry at anyone who looks Middle Eastern. And you should know better than to generalize whole populations, people who are fleeing from war deserve a refuge. Do not forget about Western involvements in all these wars, especially Clinton.
