20 Killed in Limo Crash in New York; Deadliest U.S. Accident in 9 Years

"SCHOHARIE, N.Y. — The 17 friends had all piled into a white stretch limousine for what was supposed to have been a birthday celebration at an upstate New York brewery. But they never reached their destination.

The massive vehicle, speeding downhill on Saturday, approached the intersection of two highways that residents had long warned was notoriously dangerous.

And in just a few seconds of terror, their worst fears were realized: The limousine lost control, careening through the intersection and striking an empty car.

The crash killed all 18 occupants of the limousine, including the driver, as well as two pedestrians, in an accident that left deep tire tracks in the ground and the small town about 40 miles west of Albany reeling."

This happened 15 minutes from where I live. This isn't a very populated area, only 3,000-6,000 people or so live around here. Not a very well known place in New York or the world, but it's my home. I've been down this road too many times to count. Nothing ever really happens here. And now the deadliest U.S. automobile accident in 9 years occurs here.

This is just shocking, hits close to home, and an absolute tragedy. I'm going to put flowers by the sight of the crash today. I figured I'd post this because it's just horrifying.

This is truly horrific. Can limos fit 17 passengers though? Not really familiar with US  regulations and we don’t have limos in my country.

According to Governor Cuomo, the limo:

--Never had federal certification.
--Failed an inspection last month.
--Driver didn’t have appropriate license

I think limos might have seatbelts but they tend not to be used. I'm not sure though...
