not entirely true... box office gross is split between theaters and WB.   You will need about 2x the current gross for WB to be breaking even on production costs.

My point is...the overall budget is met. Obviously there are other factors such as advertising and production cuts, etc.

However, if the MAIN budget is met early on, you have decent hit on your hands.

If we have over $38million opening weekend, we can rest assured it's a hit.  And $43mil is just the North American number.

In 4 days, that number is met. Plus this is the type of film that has legs. I also wouldnt be surprised to see it leave theaters in December just to have a limited engagement in February for award season time.

It's off to a fine start!

To answer a few questions...

In North America, alot of bigger named films get what we call an "advanced screening" which would be the Thursday before the full blown opening which is Friday.  So that counts with the weekend numbers.  It runs from that to a Sunday estimate.

The $40plus weekend gross includes the estimate today (Sunday) will garner.

Full true numbers will be released Monday but we do look to be on par with $42-43 million which covers the budget of the film. It cost roughly $38millon to get this film on the screen.

If we wish to play numbers, we could argue the money made in this upcoming week will pay for the advertising budget. However, we have an international gross as well.

Basically we have a hit on our hands and the budget is paid back, advertising will be paid back as well.

The rest is profit.

Roughly. The theaters still take some of the box office. Overseas they even take bigger %.

But this is a good sign.

After all, its money honey:vegas:

Exactly. Bottom line is it's off to a hell of a great start and with the legs a type of film like this has?  Cheers and bravo!!
