Tina Turner underwent kidney transplant

Tina Turner has revealed she was so ill with kidney failure she was ready to end her life until hubby Erwin donated one of his own.

The music legend thought she was on the mend after beating intestinal cancer and an earlier stroke when doctors diagnosed the condition.

Tina, 78, said: “By December 2016, my kidneys were at 20% and plunging rapidly. I faced two choices: either regular dialysis or a kidney transplant. Only the transplant would give me a good chance of a near-normal life. But the chances of getting a donor kidney were remote.”

Medics arranged to start dialysis but Tina refused, saying: “I’m not living on a machine.”

Tina started making arrangements and signed up to assisted suicide group Exit. That was when the idea of losing her became a reality for Erwin.

She said: “He said he didn’t want another woman, or another life. Then he shocked me. He said he wanted to give me one of his kidneys.”

They had compatibility tests and despite Tina being a high-risk patient due to heart damage from years of high blood pressure, they had the transplant operation on April 7 last year.

I'm a huge Tina Turner fan. I could watch her do 2 songs all day long and I'll post them here because they are THAT good.

I can feel for what she went through. I dont have kidney disease but I do have liver disease and am even on the liver transplant list and it's some tricky feels!

What a love story to have someone help you in that capacity. They gave each other their lives and he wasnt about to let go.  That, my friends, is what we call romance!!

This first video I love for the way she turns around and that look on her face. It's also my personal fave song of hers ..

And then this one is just a classic....

Gotta say I'm so glad to have lived during her 80s heyday. It was FUN!

"Joined assisted suicide group Exit" oh my god

That doesnt always mean it the way it can sound.

For example, let's say you hear that unless you get a transplant you will either die or be hooked up to a machine. Basically shes saying "I want to live. It's not natural for me to live by machine"...so there are programs available for people who will go thru some counseling and discuss the situation and if they choose, then it's all lined up to where IF or WHEN it gets to the point where a machine would take over for you, you dont allow it. You take that extra drop of morphine or whatever and call it a day.

So it's not like killing yourself.  If anything, it's being more natural about the situation.  Its fascinating.

You are so sweet!  Thank you!

It's something I could talk about alot but choose not to considering I live it.  One thing I have found that does wonders is laughter. If you dont laugh at it, you'll go crazy in it.

There IS a valuable lesson in my particular story that should be shared in some capacity and that is the importance of paying close attention to your body.  I stayed so busy with work, fast paced life, get off work and go to friends, hang out, etc...everyday and the only time you slow down is to sleep and do it over again.

You have to give yourself some quiet time even if it is just one day a week so you can truly hear yourself and make sure you are good!  Because one night I went to get ready for a night shift and my stomach was swollen, I had a strange color to my skin...this was December 2015...just like THAT "end stage liver failure"...lol. it's so dumb it's almost funny.

It's been a tricky road since. I've outlived every death date they have given but I am unable to work (and as a workaholic that's tricky) and I have to stay slow.

Point is...slow down on your own or life will slow you down FOR YOU and ya dont want that.

Thanks for your sweet words. Other than this, I feel fine. Lol.  Xoxo

There is an interesting conversation buried within this about assisted suicide but perhaps that's a chat for another day.  Lol
