"Shallow" is the result of working with a vocal engineer as a producer

"mixing" again. What is that mixing thing? Seriously you all pretend to know a thing about producing music, but in reality you don't. You're just not so fond of that song and that's it. Don't blame it on the mixing.

I love the song.. i was also disappointed with the end product.. there's something wrong in the mixing/editing that made her vocals sound like mumbling noise.. you can barely understand what she's trying to say in the last part..

But i've move on already and learned to accept that what we're getting is LIVE VERSIONS.. poor the studio version

It sounds really awful, they chopped different parts of the live and studio version and put them together in an horrible way and let's not talk about the last chorus being filtered so bad, if the song already has cheers and crowd sounds... What's the point then? The music video version sounds better

please stop drama, shallow is a great song, it has live vibes and i kinda like it, it fits well with the movie vibes, i want you to remember that these songs aren't made to be played on radio or being #1 on charts but to promote the movie.

I don't care about the song being a hit or played on the radio...  Don't blame me .. Blame the one who produced it .. Glad that u enjoyed it .. But i have the right to not love it .

Exactly. Look at majority of other places where fans talk about her. It’s never nearly as negative as this place.

The opinions of few don’t outweigh the many.

You're reaching, hunny

Don't shade the producer, we all know how hands-on Gaga is in the creative process. Further, this is a major motion picture. It wouldn't have been released as is unless it was 100% exactly how it was intended to be

What exactly do people hope to accomplish with complaining? Even if everyone hated the song, that doesn’t change a thing. She released a song she’s proud of, and that’s that. It’s her career, stop getting “upset” because her career doesn’t match what you want in your head

This is why therapists exist. Tell them. That’s what they are paid for.

It's not really fair to call them unprofessional people just because they don't have credits for a particular role. People are trained in lots of different aspects of production, not necessarily what they specialise most in. And there's nothing wrong with them trying to expand their skill set.

That's like asking why a talented, A-list movie star like Bradley Cooper would dare to work with someone unprofessional like Gaga, because she has very few acting credits.

My opinion is based on the final product more..  I'm here judging their work more than their career..  And being a producer is not small pony that anybody can ride it..  He's a vocal engineer for the god's sake... And please don't compare gaga with him .. Gaga have talent and Benjamin with his work prove that he is not talented as a producer

Production wise I don’t understand the hate. The fans sound horrible yes but the instruments itself, Bradley, and Gaga sound flawless. Super clear and crisp.

Gaga do sound flawless, but the trailer version is undeniably superior. And I'm not talking about the instruments or how the music builds up (because that was made specifically for the trailer), but about her singing: less powerful, less epic, less incisive.

Moreover, on the track there are actually some strange acoustic imperfection, even during Bradley's verses, which seem recorded in a studio more than Gaga's

I think it sounds great tbh... The soundtrack is an extension of the movie - it's supposed to transport you into the world of the movie - the cheers, the live vocals, the structure of the song, the mix, the lyrics all play a role in telling a story and helping the narrative progress. The choices made serve the story, period.

The choices made are purposeful and they make sense for the soundtrack

I'm going to copy and paste what I wrote in another thread because I cbf rewording it here:

"The intro with just Cooper and the guitar is perfect and his vocal performance is stunning - the extended guitar after his verse goes on a touch longer than I think it should for a 'polished' song, but it helps build the tension of the film and the hesitation for Ally to go on stage. The production building while she sings her verse works as establishing her character as someone new and fresh, literally bringing something new that Jackson couldn't, as well as just working naturally from a musical perspective. The melding of their voices is beautiful and shows Jackson supporting Ally that allows her to then deliver that final climax that ends the song as Ally finds her confidence, finds her swing, finds her voice.

That's all without dissecting the lyrics too - they work on multiple levels. I think Shallow is brilliant and sounds flawless the way it is. I don't feel like it's missing anything, I think the song works musically and as a narrative, I think it flows naturally and the structure of the song and the mixing of the song is what gives it it's authenticity. It sounds live and it sounds like a song that Jackson loves and that he heard Ally sing the night before. It sounds like the first performance of the song that isn't rehearsed, that Ally is at first hesitant to perform, that it takes Ally time to feel comfortable, that it ends triumphantly as Ally discovers her voice. To me the mixing and structure of the song is not only essential, "polish" would have totally wiped away the authenticity it needs to work....

A major reason why people listen to film soundtracks is so that they can appreciate the choices that have been made for the film and how the film has told it's story musically, they want to be able to fully appreciate and notice the tone, emotions, landscape and narrative the films musical side told seperate from the visual. It should transport the listener into the films world, it shouldn't sound disjointed or seperate from that world. The version of Shallow you want, I think, takes the listener out of the world of ASIB into a world we don't see onscreen and it removes focus from the film itself and the decisions that have been made for the film."

You don't have to like the song - but it's important to recognise it for what it is... It's a song crafted specifically for a movie. The soundtrack is a showcase of the musical decisions that where made for the film, it's a showcase of the sonic landscape the film created and how it serves the story. The choices aren't random, it's not a result of somebodies incompetence, they are an important part of stitching together a cohesive world and overarching narrative.
