No one was expecting crazy fashion, we were just expecting high quality glamour. Literally nothing about this is good the blandest possible outfits, blank/uninteresting sets, no accessories, minimal makeup, boring hair. No concept or message, and afaik it doesn't support anything (eg. First black photographer shooting Vogue cover for Beyoncé). Yeah. She must always meet your expectations. 51 minutes ago, Maleficent said: UH-OH Madonna invented posing in the grass ι'м ρυℓℓιηg үσυя sтяιηgs

Are you trying to tell me that she didn't tone down her style as a direct response to the ARTPOP backlash, in an attempt to appeal more to the GP? And I didn't put any words in her mouth, I provided a direct quote from her Vogue interview. I agree she has been serving some great looks. As I said, "traditional and inoffensive" looks can be beautiful and visually appealing. The looks in this Vogue photoshoot, however, are not After ARTPOP did she make another pop record similar to her old works to achieve the same success as before or did she go in a new direction because it’s her career and she likes taking risks? No. She hasn’t toned down her style. In the last 2 months we’ve seen MANY “crazy” looks including the warped photos (Frankenstein?) recently. She’s also in her 30s now, of course she’s evolved, but “toning down” is simply not true. Her throwing up on someone during Swine wasn’t her brand either, there’s a fine line between ridiculous and interesting and I think she’s achieving it now. There’s lady and gaga in the same brand, it’s a balance. You also have to understand for the GP, who don’t look her up EVERY DAY, THIS is shocking. People are screaming “WOW! SHE LOOKS SO GOOD HERE” because her in McQueen with Armadillo heels is actually the expected look people predict from her.

As an actress she seems to have abandoned that fearless spirit. Perhaps she has more to lose now. I hope Gaga will reintroduce avant-garde fashion into her wardrobe and make it the norm again. SHE LOOKS SO GOOD HERE” because her in McQueen with Armadillo heels is actually the expected look people predict from her. She didn't make a pop record similar to her old roots because people were clearly getting tired of it (she's trying too hard, she's just an attention seeker, she's over), and so she went for a more toned down traditional sound and look in order to meet the public's cries for "the real Gaga! We want authenticity!!!" - i.e., she conformed. I think we're both seeing the same thing here, maybe you just view it more as adapting. Just a different point of view I will concede though that yes I forgot about the recent bodymorph-esque photoshoot and the Haus editorials. I've been blinded by my saltiness about the fact she wasted her Vogue cover on such a flaccid and lifeless photoshoot But come on, she's been doing these "normal" looks consistently since 2015 no one is shocked by it anymore. Spoiler Also don't even try to come for the SXSW performance the literal purging was such an incredible expression of her "letting out" her rage and disgust towards her abuser. Cavadour 2,388
This quote of the Vogue interview already highlighted earlier by @ARTBOP is very revealing : « One of the many things about Lady Gaga that go underappreciated is that she doesn’t tell us everything. For example, we know very little about her new boyfriend, Christian Carino—other than that he’s a 48-year-old CAA agent—because she doesn’t talk about him. She doesn’t want to talk at all about the new music she’s working on for a future album, or the scripts that are suddenly rolling in. She understands more than most that a little bit of mystery and magic go a long way in this world of too much. » It answers a lot of questions I can read along many threads of GGD. Another enlightening part is this one : « When did all of the crazy-brilliant obfuscating costumes fall away? “For me, fashion and art and music have always been a form of armor. I just kept creating more and more fantasies to escape into, new skins to shed. And every time I shed a skin, it was like taking a shower when you’re dirty: getting rid of, washing off, shedding all of the bad, and becoming something new.” I wonder aloud where all that began. “I just remember feeling so irritated at the thought that I had to conform to being ‘normal,’ or less of whatever I was already born as. And so I took such radical enjoyment in expressing who I am in the most grandiose of ways.” She laughs. “It was sort of like a very polite ‘**** off.’ It was never about looking perfect—it was always about just being myself. And I think that’s what it’s always been about for my fans, too. It was a form of protection, and a secret—like a wink from afar. I’m a monster, and you’re a monster too. » I confess I too am lost in the age of the social. An age where people we've mostly never met seem so close we can touch and feel them as they were right there, in the flesh. This minute by minute, second by second stalking of such a public person like Gaga tends to blindly persuade us that we're intimately involved with her, that we know her. This overwhelming knowledge allow even us to OWN her... My little monsters = our mother monster... Let's not forget the big picture for a moment here and cut her some slack. LISTEN to another thing she says : « I’ve always hated the stigma around Las Vegas—that it’s where you go when you’re on the last leg of your career. Being a Las Vegas girl is an absolute dream for me. It’s really what I’ve always wanted to do. » This is the dream of a little girl. All through the last ASIB promo days, I saw her in grand parure, heavy make-up and elaborate hairdos. Don't get me wrong I love the empowered queen Gaga with all my subject's heart, but I couldn't wipe out the impression of being in front of Dame Gaga, a much older alter ego, aamof. And suddenly today, my inside daddy feels quite ashamed of being sexually attracted to her perfect legs on the Red Carpet or on the edge of the vaporetto, because right now, on these Vogue pictures, she looks so young, delicate and fragile. Like a teenager. A kid. Another act ? The real deal ? Well... as already quoted above : « [...] a little bit of mystery and magic go a long way in this world of too much. » Late to the party but I got a diamond heart

And I also agree that this "stripped down authentic" bull**** is what the GP responds to best (for reasons I just can't understand) - but her doing this completely contradicts what she says in the interview. I’m a monster, and you’re a monster too.” ... if you hate the idea of conforming, why are you conforming 100% to all the people saying "let's see the "real" Gaga under the clothes and makeup"? But as I said, I do agree that "simple classy elegant normal traditional" is the best publicity move right now. But it is very much possible and easy to acheive this image wihout being so bland and visually unappealing. Totally get your point. But maybe this is just actually what she wants to do at the moment. And her "spin on it" as she likes to say, is the veils, and the hats, and the theatricality she's bringing to Hollywood. She goes through such phases, and I think right now she's really working on her mental and physical state and rebuilding herself. So maybe the avant-garde and eccentricity is just not what she's vibing with rn. (all that being said I still want so much more from this shoot )

Just a different point of view It's also possible that Gaga "toned" down what she did because SHE wanted to. How much of the public was really "crying" for Gaga to go "authentic" and toned down. And I guarantee nobody was expecting an album quite like Joanne turned into, that was not "conforming" to anybodies expectations. Every time she shifts direction some part of her fanbase tries to "blame" it on outside factors, rather than just remembering that Gaga is ever changing and her own tastes change too. If she was really conforming to what her fans want she'd still be avant-garde all the time and would have put out the fifth album with RedOne by now. In fact I'd say the current fashion and old hollywood glamour are most likely a direct reflection of how she viewed herself as a little kid dreaming of being a famous actress. She wants to live the dream as she imagined it, so she is. The only thing she's conforming to is her own visions and desires. Wearing avant-garde fashion just because her fans demand it would be the ultimate conforming choice. sometimes I think how fans think about Gaga is like hipsters or goths being all "counter-culture" by all being the same. They don't want Gaga conforming to others, but they definitely want her conforming to their own views of what Gaga means.
