"Ford currently serves as vice chairman of Conservation International, a nonprofit group that protects biodiversity in trouble spots internationally. In addition, Ford has actively supported charities including Riverkeeper, Young Eagles, EarthShare and Restore Hetch Hetchy." 
It's in the article, if you would have bothered to read it, lol. This award doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what he's done recently, but how he's used his platform to "advance humanitarian and philanthropic causes" over the course of several decades.
