Could Gaga beat Glenn Close?

Everything can change in the following months, but Glenn Close is leading the race for Best Actress. She's 71 years old and six time Oscar nominee.

On the other hand, the reviews Gaga is getting are quite enough for an Oscar win. If Ally wasn't her first major role, I'd say no one could take that award from her (based on the reviews).

I don't need Gaga winning her first nomination. Yeah, it would be great, but it wouldn't bother me if she didn't win. If it was her second or third nomination, and she won, I would be ecstatic. I just don't want her to win her first nomination and everyone say that she only won because she was "Lady Gaga".

There are two reasons why Glenn Close is leading the race.

#1 - She's really good.

#2 - Her movie has been released and everyone has seen it, the movie premiered at TIFF last year (I don't know why) and was just released on 17th August this year. She has the advantage of early hype cause most people haven't seen A Star Is Born yet.

So people are naturally surprised by those performances that they have seen than those which they haven't (Gaga). Many actresses' movies haven't even come out yet (Saoirse Ronan, Viola Davis, Olivia Colman who are some of the contenders for now) so when these actresses' movies come out eventually, they will get Oscar buzz too.

By that time we will have more clarity on who is mostly likely to win the Oscar, depending on their actual performances.

I'd also just like to remind everyone that the Oscars doesn't award legacy, they cast their votes based on your performance in the movie, not the legacy or length of your career. Many child actors have been nominated before at the age of like 7 or 8.

I'm seating myself down and will not jump the gun like I did during the Oscars-Sam Smith Fiasco that made me have a major meltdown. 

Just a nom for best Actress please.  Just that and let her sing during the Oscars 2019 and I'm very happy. 

Expect less,  receive more if she does somehow win it.

Honestly, we should be happy with a nomination. If she does get nominated, the fact that she's getting recognized by the highest acting award in her first major role is something to be extremely proud of. In all honesty, I'm not expecting her to win, but I'd be so extremely proud of her if she got a nomination.
