A Star is Born is going to go through a turbulent awards season. We’ve already had the anointed debut of glory — including an early leaked review calling it the best film ever — and soon the backlash will hit. It’s not the greatest movie ever made and it’s nowhere near the best film I’ve seen at TIFF so far but it is an exceedingly entertaining musical drama that will utterly delight mainstream audiences. Essentially, this is a review-proof film, maybe the only one at TIFF, so my thoughts are trivial when spouted under that looming shadow. But at least we can enjoy the view.

IMO this is so important. Though it's expected for every award-y film to face backlash at some stage, the backlash for this is going to be so big. I'm lowkey dreading it already. Whether it's from exposure (La La Land), claims of it not being 'important' enough among other releases (The Shape of Water), or just critics overhype (Three Billboards), it's coming. :cryga:

All things good have a backlash. The true test will be the audience. I feel this film will have legs at the box office and stay for awhile. We shall see.

Even The Bodyguard had it's fair share of negative reviews. It doesnt hold close to the score ASIB has now and it was a HUGE moneymaker.

EDIT: The Bodyguard has a 35% ...

Just one example of a musical type film that made a WORLD of money that critics DIDNT enjoy.  They enjoy ASIB so yea.  Just relax and wait.

All those movies were critical darlings, despite some backlash.

The Bodyguard wasn't considered a good movie when it was released and I don't think it's considered a good movie as of now, despite being a box office smash. The Bodyguard OST received all the praise

Who cares whether it does well at the box office though?

Acting isn't like being a Singer in that respect. If, as an actor, one of your movies doesn't sell well, it bears little-to-no resemblance as to how your future movies will sell.

The film made like $300million is the point I'm making.

I was responding to someone who said "this is important" regarding a backlash thing. Lol.  I dont give two monkeys if it's a hit or not.  It's already a critical fave and I know we will love it.

I still stand by my initial prediction of $100-$125 mil north American box office.  Just for fun. Lol

I hope the public reception will be the same as the critical one, it's all that matters, especially for Gaga's career as a Pop Star and an actress.

Luckily, Bradley is an actor almost impossible to hate, he's so cute, classy, well mannered, talented... You get the idea. That helps too.

A ****-ton if people. The stans probably already expect this to outgross Black Panther, or else it’s a flop.

So at you not caring if it makes only $12 at the box office. I’m not a huge movie buff at all yet I always hear whether a movie did well at the office or not, more than whether it’s good. The box office matters. Who the hell cares? Again, literally everyone lol

ASIB tanking at the box office will have literally 0 impact on her gaining future roles so I really don't see why anybody would or should care :oprah:
