It's a lovely song but it'd get overplayed and dull before March of 2011 had it been released instead of the title track.

It's just not as earworm-esque as BTW which was also balancing a consistent empowering message in better songwriting imo.

BTW was the perfect lead single though.

The Edge of Glory is the only truly single worthy song on the album.

Naturally, any of the tracks would have been a #1 smash for weeks, but except The Edge Of Glory, I can't think of a better single than Born This Way, because of its liberating lyrics.

Even tho I love Marry The Night, BTW was the rightful lead bc if it were anything else I dont think the message it had wouldve impacted the way it did. MTN couldve been an amazing 2nd single tho, it definitely couldve done better than Judas.

Yes and no.

Born This Way wouldn’t have been as big if it wasn’t the lead. The message needed that exposure. And now it’s a huge gay pride hit.

TEOG could’ve been as big as PF and BR had it not had a messy release and bad video.

1. Born This Way

2. The Edge of Glory

3. Marry The Night

4. Scheiße

5. Yoü & I

Judas should’ve been a promo and MTN should’ve been released with the album. And Scheiße could’ve been a huge dance hit, it was one of the most bought album tracks when the album came out. They could’ve done a radio edit without the intro.

I don't get how you all think an era that began with #1 single could have been improved. MTN was fine as #5 as the era kinda faded. If anything Judas should've never have been a single and TEOG should've been single #2, but everyone knows that.

I don't understand how people think Born This Way was the wrong choice for lead single? People say it made her 'too gay' but tbh it was more so the single choices after that song that hurt her the most in my opinion. BTW is a classic song and wouldn't be so well remembered YEARS after it was released if it wasn't the lead. It consistently is considered a gay classic (which isn't a bad thing!) and is known by gays AND straights!

The worst mistake was not make The Edge Of Glory the second single. That one is considered one of her best songs and would've prevented the decline we saw with Judas.

Realistically, it should've gone:

1st: Born This Way

2nd: The Edge Of Glory

3rd: Scheiße (Promo Single)

4th: You & I

5th: Marry The Night

Judas shouldn’t even have existed.

100% no. It wouldn't have had the identity & impact that Born This Way had. It would've been a front loaded hit only cause of hype and eventually it would be very forgotten.

Btw needed to be the single due to the message. It would not have worked as anything other than lead. MTN was too melancholic and the sound too tinny to be given pride of place. I get amped as hell listening to it after a breakup but it's just not "that" song.

Judas is what killed the era. It took the 2nd single slot that belonged to TEOG. Even worse is we got "promo singles" quit that shít.

In an ideal world:

1. Born This Way

2. The Edge of Glory

3. Marry The Night

4. Yoü & I

5. Scheiße

Obviously the final single will flop no matter what but it might as well be a fan fave to give us the video we want. And launch the perfume.

It should've gone:

1. Born This Way

2. The Edge of Glory

3. Hair

4. You And I

Marry The Night was a terrible single choice and it flopped. Judas didn't flop and charted alright (#10 peak), but it disconnected her from the GP even more than Born This Way did. TEOG is the perfect 2nd single to make the GP love Gaga again after the BTW controversy. Hair as a single because it is a bop and charted higher than Marry The Night even though it was just a promo single, and that's the tea sis.

Nahh.

Shouldn't have been a single at all.

BTW then TEOG would have made the era perfect and possibly have 2 #1 singles
