For me the original version is just very tasteless and bland. Sure it has a very subtle country influence, but it's just not strong enough to make it interesting sonically.

The remix is definitely a bit too 'polished', but I think the added guitars and Hillary Linsay's amplified vocals on the remix, as well as the kind of smokey atmosphere, just gives it a stronger country flavour that Joanne was lacking. Especially when she performed it at Coachella, I just thought it really evoked that lonely, smokey, dive-bar-in the middle of nowhere feeling so much better than the original version.

As a side note, I now really wish she'd continued more with the dark, grungey, neon-lit dive-bar route both aesthetically and sonically with this era, but... what's done is done.

At first, I used to love the album version, but when the remix came out and she performed it at Coachella... I couldn't like the album version as much as I did.

Then, the JWT came and her rendition was way more enjoyable than the album version, once again. I think the problem is that Gaga finds her way to make her songs good once she performs them live, so then the album versions seem just... bland and basic, idk.

It was weird making a remix for MR like that tho. It was kinda weird that she didn't do the acoustic during when she was performing Speechless, The Edge of Glory and You and I at Coachella and Perform Perfect Illusion after all those songs. MR isn't bland and tasteles.
