yeah but small creatures can still live there, like the Tardigrade (water bear)..

The post I quoted was about human habitation of Mars and how the water tied into that, not about other forms of life that can survive in cold salt water.

Well there are ways to do it; you just have to go down a few kilometers, keep it in a controlled environment to keep it water, and remove the salt. The logistics of it will probably take a while, but that's how it'd be done I'd imagine.

Isn't "liquid water" redundant or whatever?  I failed science... and english grammar. :huntyga:

Not really :poot: ice is still water but its not liquid

Hopefully they'll find a way to do it as @calmar said above! And I think one day desalination will be the only way to get water on earth (but who cares we won't be alive to witness that anyway! :poot:)

:saladga:  It still sounds redundant to me.  It's like, duh, water is a liquid.  Anywho.

Solid water = ice (frozen water)

Liquid water = water we drink

It's important because we've known there's obviously H2O on Mars, since there are ice caps. But due to Mars's lack of thick atmosphere and many other factors that support life, if there is any life it would be below the surface.

There is evidence liquid water flowed on Mars before, but a "lake" below this ice is exciting because there aren't significant traces of liquid water on Mars today.

Anyone feel free to correct or add on to this.

Liquid water is far more likely to support life than ice (of any form afaik) is, and life in ice is probably from when the ice was liquid, if we go by the precedent set on Earth.
