I’m talking about JUST The Fame with no addition to TFM Well The Fame Monster is a part of The Fame. I'm still counting those as Gaga's debut. You could even say Cardi B has approached a similar stunning rise to fame, popularity, pop culture relevance and #1 singles. Whether she'll be as impactful in a few years is a question for sure, but her shot into stardom seems pretty similar to me. Gaga gained popularity worldwide, all of the international singles of TF were big worldwide hits and Gaga itself become a big name inside and outside the USA. Cardi B is a very local act. Yeah, I Like It it's being a worldwide hit, but it's very far away from JD and PF, even from the impact of Paparazzi. Also, Cardi B don't have any cultural impact outside USA. Here in Europe no-one knows Cardi B, even if they know I Like It. The impact and success of Invasion of Privacy is VERY far away from The Fame. And The Fame sold 15M, won alot of awards (included grammys), had way more hits. The Fame is also at 15M pure sales (which is known in 2011 lol, it's 7 years from now), with TEA and SEA it's at 32M so still. And with TEA and SEA Baby One More Time is at 38M. I remember Britney when she came out, I was like 7-8, but I was VERY aware of popular culture and Britney was everywhere, the absolute biggest thing in music since Madonna. And I relived that phase when Gaga arrived and I'd say it's pretty equal. Of course, you have to remember times were different in terms of radio. Britney's debut was at a time when radio refused to play her, but she still smashed the charts WW and had her own doll line, spun copycats (Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore) and suddenly everyone wanted to work with Max Martin. The peak was basically the same for both, but to claim Gaga's is bigger is nonsense. The cultural impact was the same although the public's interest lasted longer for Britney because of the press and her iconic meltdown. Maybe Gaga won more awards but EVERYONE was talking about Britney when I was on the playground just like everyone was talking about Gaga when I started high school. The Brits also had a commercial about Mariah Carey being the best-selling female artist of all time and the 'undisputed Queen of Pop' so I would take everything they say with a grain of salt, not a grain of TEA lol.
