RAMROD 117,015
A South Korean court ruled for the first time that it’s illegal to kill dogs for their meat, a decision that activists hope will pave the way to making the controversial practice illegal, reports said. Long shrouded in a gray area of cultural relativism, eating dogs has become a taboo in the country as younger generations gravitate closer to the Western belief that a pooch is man’s best friend, rather than a tasty delicacy, according to AFP. Roughly 70 percent of South Koreans don’t eat dog meat, but only 40 percent of them believe it should be banned. The meat — boiled to tenderize it — is typically eaten as a summertime delicacy. source: https://nypost.com/2018/06/21/south-korean-court-outlaws-killing-dogs-for-their-meat/ Finally, fam!! blackthorns 487
this is awesome but strikes me similarly to horse slaughter being outlawed in the USA. They're just going to truck them farther to other countries. There's also a weird level of hypocrisy with anti dog slaughter/anti horse slaughter in re the slaughter of other animals, but I digress. This is a HUGE positive step + an exciting one for the future of outlawing current practices entirely (not saying you can't eat meat, just saying the way we do is super nasty). jylee 66
As a Korean Canadian my thoughts on this are that if this is because of western influences, this ban is absolutely stupid. I really don’t see the difference between raising dogs and cows for meat, especially considering that these dogs have been bred and grown as livestock. Anyone celebrating this while still eating meat is a hypocrite

We also eat several other animals like rabbit, chicken, sheeps etc. Also pigs who are very clever and can socialize well. But dogs are too cute to be eaten?? What is your argument? are you a hypocrite or do you just despise eating meat at all? Maybe dont insult people and try to give an reliable opinion. Rightnow I can just imagine you as a person who thinks its despicable to eat dogs but its okay to eat other meat because you are used to it.
LadyLuca 2,611
Honestly;I would eat dog meat. Why not I eat other animals too, there is no diffrence. I just try to not eat it often and look for things like: -does it destroy the enviorment too much? -is the slaughtered animal killed fair and did it atleast have a good live. The things is: no matter what you buy it has probably a negative influence on nature. Not even talking about food. We can only choose to buy the lesser evil but in our society its nearly imposible to not be part of that negative inpact we do to the earth.
Dominic 11,922
Absolutely brilliant news and a massive victory. I'd prefer people to be hypocritical and prevent the dog meat industry than sit there doing nothing at all. Simple. One victory can lead to another. Double standards indeed You can't even use the level of Intelligence argument because even tho dogs are among the more intelligent animals, even more intelligent animals than dogs like pigs for example are killed If u were ok with killing insects for food but not dogs on the basis that they have a higher level of consciousness, that's a possible argument but clearly this is not an argument that can be used since they are not o top of the brain chain
