Canada's Green Party Leader Elizabeth May who was arrested earlier along with 2 other politicians for protesting the pipeline in an area where protestors were not allowed has not been charged with a jail sentence

However she will still pay a fine of $1500 for using her position to encourage others to break the law

On a related note Justin Trudeau Tomorrow is expected to announce either Corporate insurance or The Government buying the pipeline for nearly $10 Billion to get it built

Its a good thing that NAFTA and Trump and North Korea are competing on the headlines so Canadians are a little distracted and not fully in tune with what's going on ATM

In the 13 years I've lived in Canada I don't ever remember there being something cause so much division in a Nation

- Provinces placing trade bans and threatening to counter sue and shut off supply of each other's resources as punishment

- Provinces taking illegal measures with the Federal Government having no balls to call them out in it

-Politicians getting arrested

-RCMP officers getting kicked in the head.

This whole thing got way out of hand and showed a lack of order and structure of authority. The most disappointing thing is most Nations Governments wouldn't tolerate these acts of severe defiance of law by lower levels of Government but Trudeau hasn't done anything to repremend anyone and has just let it go on for months and months

Also u shouldn't have 5 Provinces be vocal against BC with 2 of them taking actual action against them because they took the matter to their own hands. That's supposed to be the the Federal Governments job.

Bribing a Corporation with tax payers to not cancel a project should be a last resort. If he had just been firm with BC this wouldn't be necessary. But hopefully it works and at least we will be able to move on from this mess :koons:

OMG it's so scary, yes you are right about the lack of information, I get all the information from you tbh..

But somethings needs to be done, it's like Canada is losing itself and it looks a bit dangerous, this just shows that Trudeau is not fitting this role, you can't just wave and smile all day while in any second a real scary sh-t civil war is about to start in your country..

Canada is such a joke...

They pretend to be progressive and stuff when they're actually not.

The pipeline is an environmental disaster, and now politicians are fined for protesting it? What a joke

Last night I had nightmare about the pipeline that's being planned for right next to my city. Hopefully it doesn't end up happening...

It has nothing to do with being progressive or not. It's about respecting the law.

Nobody is above the law and certainly not a politician leader. If you want to protest, you do it within the bondaries of the law. If you decide to infringe then it it's absolutely normal to be punished :toofunny:

First of all like @Florian said, protest within the law. Its not against the law to protest but there's limits and restrictions. You cannot block paths and the court ruled no protesting within 5 metres of construction for safety reasons. That's not unreasonable

As for the environment. Tbh Canada has already been investing a lot on green energies and our environmental standards and requirements for the energy sector is one of the strictest in the world. Now we added the Carbon Tax too

If we build a pipeline to not have to sell the Oil at such a discount, and to ease the congestion on trains which is becoming a problem especially for grain farmers who can't sell their grain because Oil is taking up too much rail space I think that's just being balanced and taking economy in consideration too.

Any money that is divested from Oil Sands would only go to shale in US which because of flaring in some ways is even worse for the environment than Oil Sands

We are already doing more environmentally than most other oil producers but I don't see why we have to take all the economic hits. Our oil is at a $20/barrel discount for Christ sake because we're stuck with only 1 customer and lack of exporting infrastructure forces us to sell our oil for whatever we can get

Also not building the pipeline doesn't help the environment were only loosing a tone of revenue because again, it either moves by train and trucks which is more dangerous btw, and any slowdown that does occur in oil sands is money invested elsewhere with lower environmental standards
