Is Gaga still culturally relevant?

Ever since BTW, Gaga's influence on pop culture has slowly declined. Besides the Super Bowl, Gaga doesn't seem to be as culturally impactful as before and it seems that she realizes that seeing how she pivoted and tried to appeal to an older audience through C2C, Joanne, and ASIB.

So, is Gaga still culturally relevant? If not, will Gaga become culturally relevant again with LG6?

Older audiences are culturally relevant though.

In a lot of ways I think this isn't really a yes or no question, or at least not an easily answerable one as such. There's no denying her everyday impact is way down from like 2011-ish, but it's not like she's become a nobody. For example, obviously people aren't still talking about her Superbowl halftime show, but at the time it was MASSIVELY praised, not only by ordinary viewers who found it entertaining but also by high-profile elected officials on both sides of the aisle, which was very interesting. She still performs at the award shows when she has something to promote (if she wasn't culturally relevant, she wouldn't be allowed/asked to). I think once ASIB is out we'll see people talking about her more again. But the fact of the matter is that Joanne wasn't a very interesting album for most people, so there just wasn't a lot of excitement around it, certainly not enough to carry on 1.5 years later. But honestly, name an album that came out in 2016 that people are still talking about.

In a lot of ways, I think she's a lot like P!nk. When she has something new out and she's actively promoting (like, actually putting EFFORT into it - I see you, The Cure), people like seeing what she's doing and will talk about her. But otherwise her very existence is not newsworthy. She's not like Taylor Swift where every time she sneezes there's a twitter trend; those days are over for Gaga, and that's okay. But, that doesn't mean she's irrelevant - it just means her relevancy is now dependent on whether she's actively promoting something.

She's cemented as a main pop girl. No amount of flop will change that. As long as the general public keep enjoying a few of her songs here and there, she's fine.

Judas is coming, let the cultural baptism begin.

not since 2013, her relevance increased in 2017 though significantly since 2014,2015,2016  so LG6 could snatch

she is still iconic though so she has had an impact

I just don’t understand threads like this?

She’s obviously a big name and she commands a lot of respect from the industry. She might not have ‘impact’ in the sense that people are copying her but that really doesn’t matter.

When people talk about her ‘fanbase’ it always sounds like we’re talking about something quite specific and small but it’s not. There are people like us her who will outwardly call ourselves fans of Gaga but her showmanship attracts so much more. Both times I’ve seen her live, the venues have been FULL and had people who I heard saying things that made it clear they weren’t invested fans but really enjoyed the show. The amount of praise she got for the SuperBowl and the way the crowd seemed at coachella indicates that there’s definitely still a real interest in Gaga. Maybe it’s different else where but I’m pretty sure she’s a household name here, everyone knows who she is and I’ve heard people who say they don’t like her admit she’s talented.

I guess whether we think she’s ‘relevant’ or not is irrelevant it’s self. I guess it’s my opinion but I think it’s pretty hard to deny she’s not a pop powerhouse, in talent, music, image and reputation.

Smother Em Eh

No where near she was during 2009-2011, the super bowl made people remember her again but she still isn’t nearly as popular, famous or relevant as she was during TFM-BTW era.

Shes beyond the point where relevancy matters, her reputation is already cemented, thats why the Super Bowl was such a big success, thats why she got called for ASIB. Just because she is not at the top of the charts doesnt mean shes forgotten. The industry respects her, and thats all shes ever gonna need

Mr S

We all know she's declined from her earlier years.

However, she is still an A list music star.

Her name still has power I think. Lady Gaga is iconic and a household name. She's certainly not as big as she was with PF, BR, BTW, and what have you, but she could still make a big impact if she really wanted to. And over the years she has proven herself to be an actual talent, receiving praise from legends, critics, and fans alike.

I still think LG6 could be a big deal with the right sound and smart marketing.

Edit: If ASIB is as good and goes as well as we're hoping, it should do amazing things for Gaga and open even more doors for her. It worked for Cher.

Exactly! The whole talk of relevance feels really gossipy and almost childish to me, idk
