A question regarding the use of French at the ESC of this year

Hello guys,

I have watched the final of the ESC and I cannot recall to have ever heard a sentence in French (apart the part when points are given and a country's name is mentioned and France's song) .

In the previous years, the moderators spoke at least sometimes French during the ESC. It was called Grand Prix de la chanson, after all. It has been always the majority in English, though it was a tradition that always at least bit of French was used and spoken by the TV hosts. This year, all the four female Portuguese moderators moderators only spoke English. I can't recall a single word in French.

Was this the first ESC without French? What do you think about it? Do you think French should return or not? Why has France not done anything to ensure that French is used?

I noticed it too and I was happily surprised.

It's a show for the whole of Europe, so to benefit one language over the others doesn't make any sense. French may have been a universal language language the first years of Eurovision, but it's not anymore . It isn't even the most spoken language in Europe after English, cause there're more people speaking German and Russian.

If they want Eurovision to have some bilingual vibe, English + the host nation's language would make the most sense.

If it's France they should have something in French. I'm not against there being English in there as well tho

But they did speak French... not much, a sentence or two, but I recall hearing my country's narrator saying how speaking some French is a tradition during the competition, also when the jury's votes came in they both were saying "douze points", "las Chypre", etc. It's probably less than the years before, but there was some French speaking.

Edit:

Spoiler

there's some French:sweat:

I'm happy about it, another crack in the French bubble.. French shouldn't return there and tbh I'm scared that if it'll be in France in the future they'll speak mostly French and f-ck the rest of Europe..

I think we live in a universal times and English is the major universal language so many countries in Europe should start to focus more on English and not on idk Latin like in Italy

But this exclude the Douze Points because it's part of the competition

I meant apart from the announcement of the points.

I think apart of the points, there was no French at all?! Or was it?

None of the moderators spoke French. Not a single full sentence in French.
