Would Dope fit in better on Joanne?

I personally felt like Dope was more like a cry for help and an embodiment of the depression she has post-hip breaking, I think compared to the family/friend ballads on Joanne they had a more upbeat attitude which reflected on the message of healing, maybe with some tweaking it would fit but Dope’s release on ARTPOP is perfect for what was the current raw emotion she was feeling at the time

but honestly I don’t know that’s just my onion :poot:

it is perfect after mjh imo

i do find drug culture a huge part of popart/pop music/electronic music/contemporary art

so narrative wise it  is perfect in the album

why not narrative wise? i had a quick skim of the lyrics and i thought that with some minor tweaks (and less drama on her voice), this could work into the family theme of Joanne

Speechless would fit better on Joanne than Dope imho, it doesn't require any tweaks regarding the family theme

I think Dope was important for ARTPOP because you could view the album as a euphoric drugged rave party and Dope is the come down when you just wanna love and be loved without the "stuff"...and you need that even more than the epicness of the night you just had. It also makes sense as a good segue between ARTPOP and Joanne for the same reasons.

u could explain maturely instead of being like this

Dope is needed on ARTPOP to balance out the excessive "extra-ness" of it. All of those EDM and Techno beats are overwhelming, coupled with Gaga's generally crazy/punkish vocals and weird lyrical content. Gaga's obsession with fame and its consequences are apparent on all her albums except Joanne. In this case, we have Gaga raving about the drugz and the parties and feeling high and free and being Mary Jane then boom, right after that, Dope.

It's like those people that have something to hide deep inside and they hide through being excessive on the outside. After all the craziness and Gaga "praising" (for a lack of better word, correct me on this one) drugs and how good they feel, it all goes silent and Dope starts, saying just how much they ruined her life.

We know Gaga was addicted back in the pre-ARTPOP era, and depressed af. In my opinion, ARTPOP is just her way of saying "everything is fine"

Spoiler

whenitsnotreallyfinebutyoujustcantgetintoitbecausetheywouldneverunderstand-

but deep underneath she was hurting. ARTPOP is like a mental breakdown of someone going on a complete frenzy then just breaking down crying, Dope being the latter.

I realize some of my terminology is a little... specific... but I can't think of any other terms for it.

In the end, ARTPOP is just Gaga releasing all her built up rage, all the other songs being this giant cyclone with Dope as the eye of the storm.

Dope is way too significant for ARTPOP to work to even be considered for Joanne. Both lyrically and sonically it just can't work. The haunting piano and synths are like ARTPOP's skeleton, bare and unglamoured.

I think it fits better on ARTPOP as a slower feel than the rest of the album

in joanne it wouldve had been more country i guess.

It wouldnt be out of place on Joanne as a piano ballad. But I love the electric production in the original so no it wouldn't fit "better". Plus ARTPOP does need one ballad. It probably fits better as an album closer for ARTPOP.

narrative wise...no. Sound wise...yes. But in context of the BTWB and the ARTPOP era, Dope fits in with the lyrics narrative wise.

I still don't understand why people say Dope doesn't belong on ARTPOP, I think it fits perfectly :rip:

The message yeah.

But I feel like it slows the pace of the album.

Same with the placement of Joanne on Joanne.... like its smack dab between songs that keep you moving.

Nope Dope fits better on ARTPOP. I couldn’t take another slower song on Joanne.
