We need to make a distinction between freedom of speech and hate speech. The first one needs to be protected and used to denounce injustice, inequalities and such. The other one should not be condoned, tolerated or encouraged. Just because hate speech is not against the law doesn't mean it's okay. It's just as bad, if not worse than copyright infringement. The problem is not paparazzi but people ! Nowadays, people assume that whatever is online is public and free which is completely wrong. If you want pictures free of right, you can find them in some databases meant for that specific reason. Replace a picture with a song, do you share a mp3 publicly everywhere on Twitter ? No you don't. A picture is just the same. About money, we also have to remember that magazines/newspapers have to pay hundreds of $ to use the same pictures legally. Paparazzi also work (yes really), pay for good camera, oil etc. It's not as easy as just taking a pic and they definitelly deserved to be paid, however freely using/sharing their pictures won't give them a cent and won't feed their family neither. And as long as being a paparazzi is allowed by the law (in my opinion the law isn't strict enough in the US tho) it's perfectly normal for them to come to the people ruining their jobs and efforts. You've made some points but I just find it absurd that they're being so sensitive about Twitter/Instagram accounts for posting pictures that have been previously reposted hundreds of times. Also most of them are not even making any money off them, as opposed to media outlets / magazines. **** probably 90% of the pictures we use on GagaDaily are copyrighted. It's a little hypocrite for anyone here to say "the law is the law". We wouldn't have any content if Paparazzi / Fashion photographers found out about this site. We're living on the social media era and anything that hits the web will inevitably be shared and reposted. These paparazzi make enough money off stalking celebrities to be demanding respect now. Not making money doesn't mean you're harmless. We could argue that big twitter accounts are a source of informations just as much as a magazine. But where the magazine has to pay hundreds of $ to use a picture, people online pay nothing and infringe copyright. Back in the days (remember when you were younger), if you wanted to see pictures of celebrities you would buy those gossip magazines, now you don't because people share pictures online for free and illegally. The internet isn't above the laws and I don't understand why twitter accounts having the same content as a magazine should not have the same constraints It's a thing to share things on a small forum to a minority but it's another to spread copyrighted content on a public platform where literally millions of people will see the content through retweets and sharing. The "problem" with the Internet is that it's growing very fast, and what was harmless just 5 years ago isn't anymore. And regulations and laws are not easy to set up. Gagadaily is not small forum It has more engagement than any medium sized twitter fan account. And lot of people repost content from here on other social medias. I really don't see why it's different But we're still doing it illegally and right holders have the legitimacy to ask us to stop. So far we don't have issue because we're a niche. Imagine if someone was contacting Admin about copyrighted content being posted on this forum and threaten him with a legal action. Since Admin is responsible for everything that is posted on GGD, he would ask the moderation team to WP/ban every member who would infringe this rule. That's exactly what's happening with Twitter : they're responsible for what people tweets and if they don't remove illegal stuff then they're entering in the illegality too.
