Dominic 11,922
It's so polarizing. I dont understand how a nation can be so divided. There is definitely a need for tolerance on both sides. You can't be intolerant towards 60m people, it's just not plausible. The UK was divided during Brexit but it didn't stay that way, most moved forwards. I dunno, it's pretty disheartening to see a nation with such divide. I understand why people are against Trump, so am I, yet there's too much grey area for such a great divide. Messy. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

latina twilight 2,319
Well, if he's free to tweet about his political views then they're are free not to follow him if they don't agree with him and don't want to read his tweets. It's not like they're threatening him or insulting him for people to call it "intolerant", it's just a social network, guys! get over it. We should tolerate those who have differing, benign views. Sure, I'm not keen on getting any tattoos, but if you want to get David Bowie's face tattooed on your side, go ahead. I won't judge you. I'm pro choice, but if you say that you personally would never get an abortion because it's not in accordance with your beliefs but still think others should be able to do so, I support you. However, if you are a lying, cheating demagogue who exploits the uneducated and vulnerable for the benefit of you and your cronies, I will not tolerate you. If you spread disinformation to gain support, I will not tolerate you. If you support a rabble-rouser when you have something to gain from his policies that hurt the needy when you are worldly enough and wealthy enough to know better and do better, I will not tolerate you. Some people like Kanye West are too far gone. He has all the opportunities to form the correct opinion, but chose not to. There is no point in trying to convince him otherwise. Focus your energy on getting more people politically active, volunteering and actually making a difference in your community.

One huge problem IMO is that the conservative section should be the one making the first step, since they are the aggressor of the situation. Masses wouldn't react so drastically if they didn't saw their own livelihood/human rights or those of loved ones in jeopardy. And it won't work because loosening your own moral codex or admitting faults is ingrained as "weakness" in conservative and centrist ideologies and leads to social ostracization within their own political peers (see: Angela Merkel being the punching bag of the German conservatives and her own party because she dared to show a tiny bit of kindness towards Syrian refugees). Both political divisions expect left-leaning people (aka mostly the targets of the aggression) to swallow their pride, suffer humiliation in silence and start negotiations and this current generation of liberal people is generally fed up with swallowing their pride AND getting the short end of the stick in the end. Centrists are too afraid to take a real political stance on anything, they are usually the "I hate politics" types. They ALWAYS lean conservative tho.
