I sort of agree but I don't think Gaga's a good example for their theory since she did climb the ladder following the 'road map'.

This article was more about the current state of music and less about bashing Gaga. I'm getting really tired of the fans with this black and white perception that everything she does is good and any single negative word against her is a sin. She might be your god, your mother your everything, but that doesn't mean that everyone has to agree with you about everything on her. I agree when Gaga said pop culture is our new religion, and with that comes good and bad. Everyone has a different perception of what is good and bad fan, but to me, a bad fan is one that makes death threats, won't reason to logic, and has "stan wars" on Gaga's behalf. Seriously, let Gaga live her life, and you live yours.

seriously isn't CNN suppose to be all about news....do they pick there journalist randomly off the street...no research was made. and one opinion of some pressed b---h doesn't really matter. there only writing about it to get attention themselves.

This is another reason why I can't wait for the baby boomers to all die off....a very old fashioned close minded generation that needs to be gone to make way for the future of acceptance...sounds harsh but it's true.

lol why are you on GGD then? this is what most of the people on here are about....I agree with you , and I don't praise every single things she does as "pure genius" but you also need to let the teens act like teens...they can't be mature enough to just acknowledge that some people will say bad things, just need to ignore them and hopefully they'l calm down

Not sure what I feel on the article. While I can agree on some points, others are just wtf (immediate rise to fame? they say it like she just posted a video and got famous). Also, they seem to be heralding artists more into the Adele territory (I think that's a bit iffy and biased).

I think it's nice that they (and all the others that said it) think Gaga has talent to back her up when the gimmick is done. Yet, a lot of that is covered up in the article with a lot of other stuff. imo the writing is kinda jumbled.

That's what bothered me the most.

They basically said she was a Youtube sensation.. When she's said OVER AND OVER in TONS of interviews that she worked her ass off and went through the lowest ranks of the industry up to the very top.

I thought the same.

The article isn't really about Gaga, it's using her as "poster girl for pop" to makes points in a discussion of pop theatrics vs rock and "serious" music.

Gaga is doing her best to subvert rockist prejudices, but they've been around for decades.

But why Gaga? I do think she is one of the main faces of pop and its surrounding culture right now, but definitely not the "poster girl". She's everything that can be defined as pop twisted around into something else.

Well, I also thought it was because Lady Gaga is the best known pop culture figure to adults right now. (The traffic that goes to CNN.com.)

I mean, if they used Ke$ha or Nicki Minaj as the main talking point, I'm sure a lot of their readers would have no clue as to who they are.

I think Gaga/Interscope is purposely paying people to write bad articles to go along with this era :derpga:

You know, if anyone on LM.com gets to talk to her, I'd send her this link.

I'm curious to see what her response would be.

An artist is not just a singer.. she does art with her outfits and other things and also singing! people always talk about how gaga plays the piano.

Why do I agree with them somehow? I mean only in terms of how the public thinks of her, not the fans. We know how an amazing artist she is, but the public will always think of her as the crazy pop girl who needs attention.

yeah, that's sometimes a bit sad. + the newspapers (only) pick stories (quicker) up for example when the rumour about the cockroach thing (ehh..source THE SUN) surfaced, belgian 'journalism' was reporting about it, but when she performs with legends or starts her own foundation, the attention is much much less.

We know Gaga has the vocal and in general musical talent, but people shouldn't say like "she should have tried with just her voice", that's what she was like in the beginning, and ..well, you see, she didn't get fame and success by singing Captivated.

IMO, her whole performance art and imago still complements the music and makes her so much more interesting as an artist

Is it only me or they're making Gaga sound like a Youtube star at some points.

They're making Lady Gaga looks like she just uploaded a video of her covering a song to youtube, somehow discovered and brought to Oprah then suddenly became the woman with 52 million likes on facebook.

====================

Take off all those unique hats, crazy outfits and prosthetic horns. What do we have? A girl who can sing, write songs, and play instruments.

How is she not an artist.

People nowadays like to generalize. Idiots.

Seems like the article writer is saying Lady Gaga is all about that meat dress, how she wears a meat everywhere everyday.

These people are douches.

P.S: Apologize for the insults/shades, the article pisses me off =/

I guess you're right, in the sens for headlining.

:teehee: that'd be amazing.

I agree, yet they never see everything together as a whole as 'art', instead as 'the gimmick'. Sad, really. I mean, of course she uses it as gimmicks sometimes, but they make it seem as if all the time.

This was actually a really good article.

They weren't insulting her they were just using her as a prime example of how the lines between musician and celebrity have totally blurred.
