Does it annoy you that theatre isn't daring

To follow up my last thread on my hatred of theatre. As a person whose been heavily involved in the theatre/musical industry all Thier life I'm just really bored. I'm bored of Broadway show tunes, I'm bored of cheesy jokes, I'm bored of inue does and I just wish theatre would take more risks and be darring. Like recently I went to this play called jubilee and it was absolutely outrageous. Within the first 20 mins of the show two butt naked twinks were sprawled out on the stage whilst rapping barbed wire around a bear chested woman in the shape of a maypole, a woman was suffocating her bootycall and a transfemme was stimulating masturbation with a union jack. It was wreckless, outrageous, careless and for the most part poorly written but I just loved it for trying and putting on a somewhat different display. I'm bored of these same old Broadway revivals and kiddy musicals I want something really that will rock you to the core. Does anyone else feel the same way

I think you would be more involved and in love w many performance artists. its practically theater but more conceptually driven and "daring"

I mean there's good and bad to theatre. I've left the theatre feeling nothing except a lil' hunger for a lightly toasted BLT and a latte macchiato, and I've left the theatre crying and sobbing and falling to pieces. But I can see where you're coming from for some cases.

I do love a bit of performance art but it's so much I don't know where to start

I am rather disappointed in Broadway. Such a dreary selection, with only a few great productions (play or musical, original or revival).

im gonna say it, i don't get why people like hamilton.... its so cringe....

its not that uncommon of an opinion between theatre goers.

OT: Try local plays and smaller productions. Usually great plays only get so much financial support and one has to actively be searching for quality shows. I also recommend performance art. It can help you broaden your conceptions of what theatre can be and what it is presently doing. :)

oh look, naked people, how artistic!

No it actually wasn't artistic at all. It had no deeper meaning and I hate it when people say nudity is artistic. I said it was daring and outrageous which is nice to see in a world full of lion Kings
