I think a better word than ‘unfair’ is ‘meaningless’. Everyone has a chance to get a 6x platinum single even if the pure sales are <1M. It’s just that some artists (Drake, Rihanna, etc.) have teams that push for streams and others (Gaga, P!nk?) don’t push as much. Saying Cardi’s album is gold is pretty meaningless because you don’t need a well rounded album with lots of great tracks, you just need one mega smash song. This is not a true reflection of the popularity of an album, rather, the success of one or a few songs. It’s sad, but that’s what the reality is now and we should not give much credence to certifications and billboard charts. Better measures of commercial success are pure album sales, pure track sales, track streams, tour box scores/merch sales, etc., all measured independently. Though having a charts section on Wikipedia that just has 1s is pretty satisfying :laughga:

Ive been kind of in the dark about streaming and all that so now that you've laid it all out for me thats really interesting and actually kind of gross.

I expected more album sales than 45k tbh.

physical copies are not available yet, so I think that the digital sales are justified

That's kinda hypocritic..I'm 100% sure that we would all be fine with that. If Gaga was in her place.

It's true that with the streaming era certifications are kinda losing their credibility but I think that we have to be more openminded and accept the new streaming era. It's the future of music, that's how it goes. Gaga's team has to do the same or else she won't be having the success she deserves to....

Speak for yourself, I would be 100% against Gaga bragging about cheating her way to a certified album :ladyhaha:

There are plenty of users here, including myself, who value pure sales much more highly than SPS. I see users here speak significantly more about MR pure sales being at 1.1 M than they do about about MR SPS figures. You’re right though, Gaga’s team needs to accept the reality of situation and increase her streaming power ten-fold. However, it’s incontrovertible that the streaming rules are deeply flawed and easily fixable.
