Is JLo a Legend?

Some people don't even consider Gaga a legend here, let alone Jennifer Lopez.

Gaga has achieved way more than JLo did. From singing abilities to selling out arenas worldwide to acclaim in performance to musical status (Gaga did the Superbowl twice), Jennifer doesn't seem to match the legend status at all.

Bottom line is, don't discount her achievements like that. Just because you never hear her belting out (which she actually can) cos the music she chose to do don't really need it, doesn't mean she cannot sing. You may not know her or familiar with her or like her at all. However, she did great. Cannot escape her songs at the radios and the clubs on late 1990s and early 2000s. She was AROUND.

She have long standing career (19 years and counting!) that many people would get jealous of. Nobody can go years and years in the showbiz unless they got something. Many of her peers that came out the same time as her are unheard of now. And J.LO is still around. It's just that simple. She is a legend. Period.

An impactful pop culture icon, sure, but not a legend. Can she be mentioned in the same breath as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Stevie Nicks, and Amy Winehouse?

She has some iconic hits and has done good parts in movies, she's one of those few artists that are good at both, but I wouldn't say a legend because she hasn't been that acclaimed or revolutionary.

I'm sorry but these examples just show how mediocre she is at singing, with a level of expertise almost at Selena Gomez level. Whispering is not real singing, not even to be considered a "legend" for it. It's not just the belting or the high notes, her technique on the mid to low range is just as bad as Katy Perry's, only that KP has a wider vocal range so she's capable of a lot things that Jlo physically can't.

Nelly Furtado was actually bigger than Jlo ever was during 2006-2008. She released 8 singles from a single album, which went diamond worldwide, she was literally everywhere, and even inspired Madonna to make a whole album with the same producer. Should we consider her a legend just because she had good commercial performance in a certain period of time? I'm a fan of hers and even I know that's just delusional. If that was the reason we should consider an artist a "legend" maybe we should join The Chainsmokers too, because they also broke a lot of records and you literally cannot escape their songs the past few years.

Sure, you can have a long standing career when it's basically selling yourself out and clinging to every trend possible, starting from stealing songs from Mariah Carey and basically imitating her style when she was a pioneer in infusing rap and hip hop into pop during the mid to late 90s, to then joining EDM when Lady Gaga and Redone made it popular and recycle the same formula to the point of making people sick of it with the countless Pitbull collabs (with the hope of getting another hit), to then going reguetón just because it is a worldwide thing now.

I think your use of the word "legend" is very different from mine, but I really don't see anything on her that screams "legendary". There are a few artists with almost same amount of years in the business and you don't see anybody calling them "legends" for that. And tbh I can't remember more than five songs titles from her, let alone iconic moments, performances or music videos.

She was hated all her life, people and press alike made fun of her. And when she won those Grammys, nobody  was happy about, and she got bullied even more, especially by the press in her own country. Which was why she got into addiction and caused her to downward spiral and dying in the first place. Even during the time the news about her broke, lots of people got the nerve to quote my post on former tumblr account that I was mourning for a loser. But there's so much more to singing than just belting out high notes. She usually delivers pretty good acoustic performances and decent vocals in her pop songs.

Maybe so. But all the great vocalists can belt. And/or known for their belting. And in its purest form like classical opera and stage plays, the main vocalist are the one who belts. It is requirement.
