What is 'Aura' about?

I've been so into ARTPOP lately, especially Aura. But I don't understand the meaning behind it? Is it about a murder (I killed my former and....) or about sex (the chorus)? Or neither? :oprah:

I mean Aura is basically used as a synonym of Burqa as the song was originally called and just like seeing the person who is behind this "Veil" this "Burqa" and what a person is all about. (Do you wanna see me naked, lover? Do you wanna peek underneath the cover? Do you wanna see the girl who lives behind the aura) Getting to know the real person behind a front.

That's what I'd say anyway...

Anyway, it's about the high fashion dresses she always wears, they're tge Aura which surrouds her.

But she is not defined by it, they're not always a statement but just a move of passion, so you should go over them and check what's behind them, what's behind the aura, if you really love her.

"Do you wanna peak underneath the cover?"

I want to, and I think we all would like to!

This.

the "Aura/Burqa" is what surrounds gaga (her fame/fashion/reputation). She says she is killing her former (i.e. the gaga as the world knew her at the time), and is lifting the veil/burqa and revealing her true identity.

Of course there's multiple levels of interpretation:

women's oppression ( i'm not a wandering slave, i am a woman of choice. my veil is protection for the gorgeousness of my face. You want to pity me cause...)

Fashion/cultural appropriation as being perceived as deliberate political statement, which she refutes:

(Enigma popstar is fun, she wear burqa for fashion
It's not a statement as much as just a move of passion)

Lord Temptation

It is about the the so-called war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. Greed fuels violence. Violence is a mask to cover up our sexuality :stalkga:

Gaga seems to have a thing for soldiers (Alejandro I’m looking at you :derpga:). But she also has a thing for mysterious women who are strong underneath a thin veil of vulnerability :sis:

I have always seen the song about that she wants to take the Aura that doesn't let her show to the world like she actually is, because she feels like she's wearing a burqa (aka most of her self is covered). So she wants to kill her previous self which was 100% character or at least had very little of her personality to show us more about herself

It’s amazing nobody mentioned this before but in Islam, Arabic term Awrah means the intimate part of the body that must be covered with clothing. We know the original title for this song is burqa, and she later changed it to Aura (awrah), which is what the burqa meant to cover.

lost in limbo

This song has multiple meanings. The song starts with Gaga killing either BTW Gaga or Beyoncé's character in Telephone (depending on what you interpret it as).

Gaga then proceeds to comment on the burqa/aura's misteriousness ( I'm not a wandering slave, I am a woman of choice...), before talking about sex (You want to pity me because...). She then invites the listener/her lover to see the real her, behind the wigs and the fashion (chorus.)

The enigma popstar part has multiple interpretations. My interpretation is that she's basically saying that the girl behind the aura is the aura itself.

The "dance, sex, ARTPOP, tech" is basically the thesis of ARTPOP. ARTPOP explores dance, sex, art and pop. The tech bit refers to the EDM sound of the album.

The ARTPOP at the end marks the beggining of the album, basically.

One of my favorite things about this song is the multiple meanings it has. Truly a way to start the album.

this is the state of grace, this is the worthwhile fight

misunderstood

Basically this:
Do you wanna see the girl behind the "Aura", AKA what people think of "Lady Gaga".
The girl behind that Aura is Stefani, do you wanna see her or just the pop star.

"I'd rather be poor and happy, than rich and alone"

I think that the general gist of the song is about "women behind the clothes" and how people judge or assume things based on their appearance. Gaga took an article of clothing that best represents that-- burqas.

When addressing the very beginning of the song, though, I really do think that this was a reference to the Paparazzi and Telephone videos.  You can't convince me that this wasn't originally intended to be the third act in that music video trilogy. #whatcouldhavebeen

I think it’s about ARTPOP itself too, it’s like a “do you want to see what ARTPOP is about?” It’s like a good intro, glad she chose it as first song :firega:

What’s in a reverse-warholian expedition?

I may not walk on your street or shoot a gun on your soil
I hear you screaming, is it because of pleasure or toil?

Do you wanna see me naked, lover?
Do you wanna peek underneath the cover?
Do you wanna see the girl who lives behind the aura, behind the aura?

It's not that hard to get tbh :trollga:

But it also speaks about being confident of your own body and the vulnerability during sex. Amazing song tbh
