Taylors on a worldwide stadium tour, Gaga cancelled an arena tour with black curtains covering unsold seats. I love gaga same as we all do but we look stupid if we think Gaga is in the same status as Taylor. I kinda prefer it that way because we get more intimate shows, fans get to meet her more ect. Im happy with that. We cant make up **** though. Shes sold more albums more than anybody else on the planet in 2 years. Thats an achievement. If people want to say thats crap they look idiotic. Did Blank Space need a televised performance to go #1 for weeks and weeks? No. Did Shake It Off? Hell no. Promotion would probably have helped a little, but her singles would still flop/underperform. What truly drove Taylor's singles last era was RADIO. And RADIO ain't here for Ms. Swift this era at all. Reputation crossed 2 million yada yada yada. You know what else? It's also the last mark it'll reach. It won't ever reach 2.5 million, let alone 3. And at the end of the day, the album is selling less than 10k weekly now and it hasn't crossed 3.5 million WW. AT BEST it'll go on to reach 4 million, which is down SIXTY PERCENT from her last album. That right there, my dear, is worse than Gaga's decline from TF to BTW. It's one of the biggest declines for major pop girls in recent memory, if of all time. So to claim this era is by any means some sort of success is ridiculous. The public at large has lost interest in Taylor. Her worldwide fame only truly lasted one era (1989), so in the memory of the GP worldwide, she's only really known for one era and is in the eyes of the WW GP a one-era-wonder. And to end my essay with another "funfact": Gaga and Taylor had similar declines, but only one of them (Gaga) had actual hits during that same decline (Born This Way and The Edge of Glory) You really despite her don't you? I mean, 1989 was a mark for her career since she switched to full pop, and the lead was insanely catchy, so is the rest of the album, and the Katy feud, etc, that's why she sell so much. And for reputation, she didn't even bother to promote, and it still sells 2M up until now. That IS impressive for an album in this streaming era, you can say it was the biggest downfall or anything but the album is still a success in pulling numbers that others can't. And I seriously don't get why people drag Taylor for being "local", I'd listened to her older songs a lot before 1989. And about the hits or misses, reputation still be able to make an moment in Pop culture which is the LWYMMD video and the "the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now" line. Phoebe Buffay 12,525
Wow, this thread.... This era IS an underperformance for Taylor's standards. Don't tell me she didn't promote just because she wasn't doing interviews. I mean, look at all this promo: Spoiler +Jimmy Fallon, Jingle Bell Ball, Spotify, premiering music videos during award shows, Saturday Night Live, billboards.... And still her singles flopped (excluding LWYMMD which only lasted a month or two). Having 4 singles and your album only being out for 4 months should tell you something. Even End Game (which features ED SHEERAN and FUTURE) didn't do well. Her singles began to free fall on the charts and radio after two weeks or three. The album also spent the least weeks at #1 on the BBH100 (4 weeks? ) while 1989 and Red spent way more and it isn't in the top 10. . And still you Swift fans are calling this A SUCCESS. (if she'd been active for the whole 2016/ beginning of 2017, then it wouldn't crack even 1,5 in SPS.) And Gaga, for her overexposed era still managed to have 4 songs in the top 10, while the 2 of them were SMASH hits. (in other countries too, not US, UK and Canada only ). Plus she went on a REAL world tour and sold out stadiums around the world too (London, Paris, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Seoul, Bangkok, Copenhagen....). Swift can't sell out a stadium outside of NA and Australia and that's a F A C T, not especially selling out a stadium in Paris (71k). And to anybody saying that wOw, YoU CoMpAre a 2011 AlbUm to a 2017... Joanne still has sold 2.2 copies WW. Taylor's only has sold 3.5 because of the 2M sales in the US only. Every video of the era has 100m+ views on Youtube (Delicate is coming) with literally zero promotion, whereas Gaga was promoting the hell out of BTW (and still wasn't on top of the charts for long). It is a decline from 1989, but you also have to take into account that Taylor had a similar amount of success as Reputation during her previous albums (look at Speak Now, Red, etc). Don't compare the success of Gaga with Taylor (in the US). While Gaga has one album that sold more than 3 million copies in the US, Taylor has 5 of those, possibly a 6th one on the way (you never know what the tour brings ). And Taylor did it during the time when physical sales are declining. You say people are hating on Taylor? Then why did she manage to pull off 2m+ in the US ALONE whereas the major loveable pop girls can't even cross the 500k mark? She outsold every female in the past few years, except for Adele (god bless her).

(a success that began to free fall after 4/5 weeks.) 2. BTW was 55 weeks on the BB200 (a whole year to be specific). (if you call that not good then I don't what is) 3. The Fame and Born This Way have sold over 3M in sales alone you know, it's just that her label and team are a mess for not certifying her old stuff. If they did certify it maybe The Fame would be 4M, you never know. 4. She sold 2M because that is her main market. She isn't Madonna, MJ, Bey, Rih, Gaga to be big in other music markets too you know. You said Taylor was bigger which is complete nonsense when it comes to Gaga's PEAK. Taylor's 1989 was NOT bigger than Gaga's The Fame in any way, shape or form. To further prove my point, I'd like to point out the fact that there's something called INFLATION. Meaning that Gaga actually did $247 MILLION in 2017 dollars. Taylor's Look How You Made Me Flop After The Hype Was Dead and Radio Never Really Played Me was number one only THREE WEEKS and it did so with sales, radio and STREAMING, something Billboard wasn't counting when BTW debuted. And even without streaming, BTW spent more weeks at #1. FACT is Taylor is doing HALF of Born This Way worldwide right now (6 million vs. 3 million), so this proves my point even more: Taylor has not, is not and will not be bigger than Gaga's peak worldwide
