McMonster08 4,528
Brazilian soccer star Neymar came under social media fire for a Twitter post that seemingly aimed to draw a parallel between his rehab from a broken right foot and the lifelong battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that legendary physicist Stephen Hawking lost on Wednesday. Not long after news of Hawking’s death circumnavigated the globe, Neymar figured it was a good time to post a picture of himself laughing in a wheelchair with the caption quoting the cosmologist: “One has to have a positive attitude and must make the best of the situation that one finds oneself in.” The rest of that quote reads: “If one is physically disabled, one cannot afford to be psychologically disabled as well.” Hawking refused to let a debilitating disease rob the world of his brilliant mind. Neymar, who is expected to be in uniform when the Brazilian national team takes the pitch at the World Cup in Russia this summer, would have been wise to heed that portion of Hawking’s advice. -Yahoo! Blue wig 356
I love how he makes a comparison between Mr. Hawking, who worked hard to revolutionise science despite his illness, and himself, who will get better in a few days and continue running after a ball for money... Spoiler I don't really know exactly what Hawking did, but I'm pretty sure it was much more important than football
Andreu 37,216
A football player acting in a way that shows they're ignorant and dumb. What's new?
Sizzily 14,574
There have been decades of wheelchair jokes, I don't think his death would change that. Inside my head I have the best time

rumours 45,521
Absolutely disgusting. Stephen Hawking has contributed more to society than this “soccer star” has EVER accomplished. I love how it’s 2018, and these public figures can still be so mentally and socially inept. 31 minutes ago, Blue wig said: I don't really know exactly what Hawking did https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Hawking Read up on him. Thanks for the shade I should have said I don't understand exactly what he did (as in "I don't understand much about astrophysics"), so I did come off as ignorant, but thank you anyway. swordstalker 1,829
I'm not sure what's so wrong about what he said? All he's saying is don't let your illness and disabilities get in the way of your goals. Whether life's disabilities/ left you outcast, bullied or teased/ rejoice and love yourself today/ 'cuz, baby, you were born this way. I think it's a powerful statement for talented scientists, athletes, etc., who feel less valued or demotivated by their physical condition that society deems as less than ideal. It doesn't matter if a 9 year old down the street, who hasn't achieved anything in life yet, said what Stephen said, it's still an important message. I took your comment to mean that you didn't know what he accomplished, so I was just saying that you should read up on him. Sorry if I offended you in any way.
