Lazlo 106 Posted March 12, 2018 Share Posted March 12, 2018 She has a distinctive sound. I listened to Pure Heroine just because Bruce Springsteen did a cover of ''Royals'' live in one of his shows. I found the album kind of boring. Melodrama is better, but she's just not my cup of tea I guess. There are, in my opinion, better alternative artists out there. Some people praise her for her lyricism and go that far to call her the best lyricist ever but I don't think her lyricism is that good. She is a good poet, and the production on her albums is quite unique, which I appreciate in an artist. But nothing groundbreaking. What I don't appreciate about her is her trashing some other artists at the beginning of her career As a big Bowie fan, I'm kind of sad that he wasn't that fond of Lady Gaga like he liked Lorde. Is she the future of music? No, she doesn't have the full package to be that. But today's culture is different and ever changing, new trends come and go - I think it's hard to tell who exactly is the future of music. I'm a Lana Del Rey fan too and I think it's silly to compare Lorde and Lana - they come from totally different places. TinyRick 61 Posted March 12, 2018 Share Posted March 12, 2018 It all comes down to live vocal ability for me. Lorde's studio voice and live voice are just awful for me. Like nails on a chalk board. That's just me. I've tried to listen and enjoy. I just can't. I hate her music which sucks because she is an interesting person with better than average lyrics. Lana isn't great live either but her voice is unique in a non annoying way and I adore her studio sound and prefer her lyrics even if they are a bit mono. Not everyone can have an iconic beautiful bad voice like Bowie. I love him but he was wrong about her. Flailing on stage like a dying water buffalo isn't a replacement for raw vocal ability. If I'm feeling embarrassed and cringing whenever you perform, there's no real magic there. I'm not going to support an artist just because the industry is force feeding me the idea she's iconic. That's my opinion and it hasn't changed about her, even when I tried to understand the hype.
