JustinTrudeau 2,419
Article: https://www.lifezette.com/polizette/trump-without-steel-aluminum-your-country-not-the-same/ First part of the article (read more in the link): Making good on a campaign promise to pursue an “America First” trade policy, President Donald Trump on Thursday announced stiff tariffs on foreign steel and aluminum manufacturers. Trump said at the White House that he would formally impose tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum next week. “What’s been allowed to go on for decades is disgraceful,” the president said. “It’s disgraceful. And when it comes to a time when our country can’t make aluminum and steel — and somebody said it, and I will tell you — you almost don’t have a country. Because without steel and aluminum, your country’s not the same.” Blurb for Canada: The announcement did not go over well with America's trading partners and free trade advocates, however. Chrystia Freeland, Canada's foreign affairs minister, called the tariffs "absolutely unacceptable." She noted that the United States has a $2 billion surplus in steel trade with Canada and that her country buys more American-made steel than any other nation. @Economy What do you think? Is this realistic? I feel like this is going to hurt Canada. I fell down the stairs once as an actor.
FATCAT 60,886
The dumbest and most destructive economic policy he's ever put through. Reel in your grandpa, Republicans. This kitten over here (meow)
swordstalker 1,829
Don't hold your breath. His cult will eat this up, as they do with everything. I hope the EU and others hit him where it hurts most. Like respond with tariffs on Florida oranges and turn that swing state blue as fuuck. Trade wars are a dangerous game, and when you're as dim as Trump and his sheep, you're going to get hurt. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Most Americans probably don't even know what a tariff is.

Tariffs were the largest source of income for the US Federal Gov (until controversial income taxes were started in the early 20th century). Like @swordstalker said, I’m sure his base will unfortunately love this proposal. OT: This tariff idea (in my opinion) is both immeasurably dumb and hypocritical of the president. I wonder if there was a time Trump bypassed purchasing steel from American companies and instead bought foreign steel to build his “great” buildings?.... Economy 52,842
@JustinTrudeau Canada imports $2 Billion more in steel from the US than we sell to them but it would still be bad for us especially if the tax goes only 1 way and we dont slap it back This is bad for them too tho. It will hurt their manufacturing competitiveness with higher raw material costs

How can anyone even understand the complexities behind this proposal? That's one of the biggest issues in America: education. Like you said, supporters will just eat it up. Well In most schools, Texas at least, it’s required to take Government and Economics. Also, tariffs were imposed on pretty much everything before the American Revolution. If Americans listened in history class, they should know ha. But it’s definitely taught. May I Read You? 😎

I just don't give a lot of credit to people. Because if people were educated in Economics, we wouldn't be having to hear bs from them. How many Texans voted for Trump and continue to be swayed by every policy his tiny brain comes up with?

Because I think you’re missing the point. Most people, Texas included, voted against Hilary. They didn’t like her because she was a woman and because of the Libya stuff. People also voted for him because he says what they think. They are racist and voted for him because they share the same opinion on immigrants, Mexicans, Black people and white power in general. They see themselves in trump. So they could care less if he imposed a bad bill. They just want America to be white power again. scallywally 626
Didnt he use Chinese steel to build Trump towers 'cuz im smart' or something like that. On top of the fact that the NRA uses metals to have their stupid guns, making American rich people richer. Its isolating the US even more. Utterly stupid, almost as bad as banning Trans people from the forces kicking Americans out when his wife and her family can stay. He's letting poor Americans die without insurance. If nobody can see through all this with him wanting a master race like Hitler whilst being batshit crazy let them have him. He's a liar a cheat, an abuser and a con man. Yet he still he has followers. Whats next?

I'm talking about how people just aren't smart regarding government policy history and economics. Groups of Trump supporters doing stupid things is already a given. But if we're going to talk about voting, most people did not vote for Hillary in the general election. Trump won Texas but Dems actually had a major increase in votes for that election.
