Maria Brink 1,668
I have been seeing MANY comments on GGD about people doubting the scale of ASIB or if it will do well, and if the public will care about it... I am super confused at these comments because it is literally a film out of Warner Brothers Studios, that stars two A-LIST celebrities. Idk if y'all are just really negative or if you guys just are unaware that Warner Brothers is a HUGE hollywood film studio that has produced MANY award winning, critically acclaimed films (Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings, Marvel Films, etc). Gaga would not have been cast for the role if her audition wasn't up to par with what they were looking for, and if they felt she could not do it. Bradley would never have gotten a directorial gig if Warner Brothers felt he did not have an extensive sense of direction. Hollywood is a big deal, and it is a cut throat industry where if you can't do it, you won't get that opportunity to do it. On top of all of this, the film was pushed into the fall, where all the oscar films are released. My question is; WHY ARE SO MANY OF US WORRIED ABOUT ASIB!? This will probably be a defining moment in Gaga's career, as well as Bradley's. People are talking like its going to have a limited theatrical release that will go straight to DVD... This film will be in theatres across the world... So I am just still wondering why we all talk as if this project won't get much engagement... Discuss... TheCureinMalibu 45,913
Gaga is not a very big name in theaters. Since ASIB is her actual debut in the screen, this makes a lot of fans nervous because it could be a flop.

But nobody but us will look at the film and go "Oh thats Lady Gaga" and decide because of that not to watch it... They are going to see the trailers on TV, in theatres, they will see Bradley Cooper and thats what will be the deciding factor on if they see it or not. Its the story that drives an audience to want to watch a film... Gaga is also a very well respected musician... So I don't think we have anything to worry about. ryanripley 86,575
they're probably projecting insecurities, i just don't want it or her acting to be dragged cus she's worked hard to rebrand herself https://goo.gl/xMgMvJ

RadioIsOurs 13,876
Because being part of the current generation, I could see this from the perspective of my peers who are not LMs and wonder what the main appeal of this movie is?

To play devil's advocate, WB Studios has produced plenty of flops -- even ones with A-list actors in them.
Retron 2,605
Studios routinely spend tens or hundreds of millions on movies packed with stars, and give them all the marketing push in the world, only for them to flop (Baywatch, Ghost in the Shell). Other movies (Get Out, Girls Trip) are made cheaply and get almost no marketing, but smash. You just never know.
Bebe 17,106
Lower budget, Bradley's first time directing, Gaga's first major movie role. I don't think it's going to be a smash hit which is fine, it wasn't designed to be, but as long as the plot is okay, Gaga does well and the music is good then hey. Pamelaisley 933
If we all become film critics, give it great reviews, and see it 10x at least, it probably won't flop. the moon lights her way 🌖🦇
sethrb101 4,523
I'm cautiously optimistic. I don't want it to bomb, but I'm actually more concerned that the actual quality of the movie be good. Kinda how I feel about her music tbh.

It's a Warnee Bros movie with A lkst actors with people like J-Law and Barbra saying it's good. I think it's gonna be okay.
James Gibson 3,514
I expect it to do okay in the box office. The soundtrack, if well promoted, could gather a hit ot two maybe. The movie itself I believe it will have positive reviews and compliment Gaga's acting (but nothing too outstanding) and singing (which wilm appeal more). The only problem I can see, according to the pre screenings people have been saying is the problematic editing which may mess it a little towards the end of the movie. As for awards, I can see Gaga getting nominated at the Golden Globes for the songs and for Best Actress Comedy/Musical (not so competitive category). She might win one of those because the globes like big stars at the ceremony. At the Oscars, if they play cards right, they might get in for the songs similar to The Greatest Showman. In General, think it'll a fun experience for Gaga and the fans to follow and can bring nice things if she truly embarks on it. We might get some nice Premiere moments, interviews, events etc and Gaga will be seen from another perspective but still singing some tunes. I'm only relaxed because everybody is saying her acting is doing good and will avoid everyone from trashing her and saying she ruined it (making eternal jokes, getting Razzie noms etc). If the movie is panned, it'll be for other reasons than her. And that calms me, I think
