Democrats picked up another special election victory Tuesday, winning a legislative seat in a New Hampshire district where President Trump beat Hillary Clinton by a 13-point margin in 2016.

Voters in Laconia chose Philip Spagnuolo, a substance abuse counselor, over former state employee Les Cartier. The district had come open when state Rep. Donald Flanders (R) died in September.

Spagnuolo won on Tuesday by a margin of 968 votes to 841, or about 7 percentage points.

It is the latest in a string of special elections Democrats have won in Republican-held territory. Just this year, Democrats have picked off GOP-held seats in Missouri, Florida, Kentucky and Wisconsin.

Yeah, I'm betting on a democratic majority in both chambers this November

Im still not sure if this means pro trump are switching sides or if people didnt show up for clinton cuz they hated her.  Bit of both maybe.

Almost certainly both. People who held their nose and voted Trump are having regrets. Suburban white women are the demographic to watch.

i hope this momentum remains steady. bc as the midterms in november draw nearer, i feel like things are going to get uglier and messier. we may potentially have russia spreading unfettered propaganda and sowing discord again, a faction of republican voters who would sooner call school shooting victims/witnesses paid actors than talk about any sort of gun control, and when donald trump hits the campaign trail, ****'s going to hit the fan.

but i believe that there are more rational people in the country than not, and that 2016 was just a blip that will serve as a reminder to those who f*cked up the first time around

It doesn't have much to do with the electorate not liking Hillary, even though her unfavorable numbers weren't great.

Presidents almost always lose party seats in the midterm after their election. You have to be significantly popular (55%+ favorable) to even hold onto the seats that you have.

And this president is particularly unpopular. This week, he dropped back down to his lowest disapproval rating again (38-39%), so the swing effect will likely be especially strong - a sign of a coming wave election.

State house elections? This is news on the Hill? They're desperate. By this point Obama had lost all federal special elections and 140 state elections. So far Trump has only lost 2/7 federal elections and 39 state elections. Democrats lost over 900 elected positions during Obama's eight years, every seat in the US is GOP.

It doesn't really have to do with liking Clinton. This is usually what happens during midterms. But with regards to the elections, most Democrats didn't come out to vote in the first place because they were fooled into thinking that Hillary was guaranteed to win by the media and the Russian bots.
