Britney Spears - Original Doll

So; earlier this day I made a thread talking about Britney's State Of Grace, and good sis @Drin Lon suggested that it would have fitted well in Blackout, right after Heaven On Earth. This got me thinking if that could have worked (not really :selena:) and got me interested in Britney's Original Doll as well.

For those who don't know, Original Doll is a Britney album that was supposedly scrapped around 2004-2005 I think, because the label wouldn't let Britney release it. A lot os speculation has taken place because of this, but no one really knows anything about this project. All we have is a lot of leaked demos from 2004-2007 and our own imagination :laughga:

BUT, here's the important part. This past hours I got bored and tried out different playlists with my favorite unreleased from this era, and some songs from Blackout and singles released within this time as well. The result I got is one I'm really proud of, as it tells the story of Britney's downfall and how she felt during this time space (2004-2007), going from her meeting this guy (:lolly:) to heir breakup to her comeback to the stage :firega:

Here I'm listing my playlist (14 songs) I must say that sonically, they flow really well and are really cohesive too :firega: The songs and why I think they fit so well in their position:

1. I've Just Begun (Having My Fun) [Greatest Hits]: "Here is a little story that I made up. So let's make believe, four years ago I had a party that was too much fun for me. Boy there's a sexy guy. He'd surely give me everything I need" These are the opening lyrics to the album. On point already right? :lolga: In this song she talks about simply wanting to have fun (of course, this is the album opener Britney)

2. Do Somethin' [Single]: This is a little fun track; she's seducing this guy who she's seeing in the club. I like to take the club as a metaphor for partnership in my album concept too :stalkga: Pretty much this is about Britney's party life around 2004-2005, which was crazy :saladga:

3. Kiss You All Over [Unreleased]: "Bet you if I kiss you all over. You can tell that. She'll be jealous" She's finally hooking up with this guy, but he has another relationship. But she's fallen for this guy, she can't help it :wtfga:

4. State Of Grace [Unreleased]: This is gorgeous, this masterpiece should've never been scrapped :bye: Well, "Love is a state of grace transcending time and space no other way I can describe" She's experiencing love like she's never had before, she's really fallen for him

5. Someday (I Will Understand) [Single]: "You'll see it all in your baby" I think that's all I need to say about this one :unicorn:

6. Strangest Love [Unreleased]: "Stuck here so far from home. Talking. But they don't know. Can't make sense of the signs. I thought I would die. Till you looked in my eyes" The world is criticizing Britney, judging her every single move. But she held onto this guy, which gave her strength. Words were not needed, they just experienced love in the purest form

7. Hooked On (Sugarfall) [Unreleased]: Turns out Britney was being delusional :( "My mama told me go on and let you go. Said you would be more problems than I'd ever know. Said if he's going to go then let him go away" This guy is leaving her, but she's hooked on him. She says she'll be OK without him, but having him back from time to time wouldn't hurt

8. Money, Love & Happiness [Unreleased]: Heartbroken, she goes back to this 'doll' persona, the Legendary Miss Britney Spears :firega:. Doll, for me, is how people envision Britney's supposed 'shallow' lifestyle and way of thinking. "But when it comes to being the best there aren’t no contest" All she needs is money, love and happiness :lolga: "All I got to say, I want to be in love. I want to run away to a place of fairy land of dreams, that is where I'll find"

9. Look Who's Talking Now [Unreleased]: "Looking at me, yeah they are looking at me. I was true to you, just to find my point of view. Now you are looking at me, yeah you are looking at me" This guy now wants to come back to her, but she won't let him; she already has that fancy life of the rich and famous, and what about him? "Controversy is like a ticking time bomb. Controversy is what they want"

10. My Prerogative [Single]: "Everybody's talking all this stuff about me, why don't they just let me live?" Controversy and being famous again ruined it yet again, her reputation was already damaged from previously partying nonstop and hanging out with this guy; she's a doll to the media and they'll make her seem as bad or as good as they choose every time :fthis: At this point, she's over every little thing

11. Dramatic [Unreleased]: She's not having it again with this guy coming over her anymore; this track disses his entire existance (I know this track is about Justin T, but hey, it works really well here as well :staymad:)

12. Mona Lisa [Chaotic EP]: She's sharing her story here, using another big woman as an example of how she allegedly fell and people were wishing for it to happen. When you're on top, people like seeing you fall. She's not another doll for them to take down whenever they're tired of her :whitney:

13. Take Off [Unreleased]: Now that she's into preaching, she'll also tell us all off about loving each other and being respectful to one another, and not letting hate overcome us. Woke Queen we love her  She's learnt a lot in these past tracks, so she's sharing this as well with us :tony:

14. Get Back [Blackout Bonus Track]: This song is a little extra, but hey bear with me. With this song, she comes full circle, finally coming back to the stage and becoming that 'doll' she was before, but once she's shared her story with us, we know she's not another doll, she's the original doll

So, what's your opinion? I really recommend you to listen to it, it's breathtaking :wtfga: I'm really proud of myself

Do you have any Original Doll playlist yourself? Or would you change anything?

Tagging the good sis @brit4ever because I'm sure (s)he'll be really interested in this :queenga:

Great playlist but I don't think the main topic of the album would have been a relationship :lolly:

I read somewhere that Original Doll was just Britney's way of saying that she wouldn't be replaced by The PussycatDolls since they were under the same manager/label, and that she was the OG Doll :reductive: not that interesting of a concept tho so I kind of let go of that album.

I did read that interview with a writer/producer she worked with for In The Zone tho in and he said that she made a lot more meaningful songs for the album, empowering ala Born This Way, one of them being Take Off, but her label didn't like them.

This. So revealing.

Radio host: "Good luck with your album"

Britney: "It's probably gonna be called Original Doll"

They said it was gonna come out summer 2005, or a little before

Thanks for the tag, you've done nice job here. ;) However at the time Britney was a mess at the time and OD would've been a mess if it was released so I'm kind of happy it didn't happened. And since I found out the album was a meant as a jab to The PCD and Jive Records, it was kind of childish on her side. :poot:

Spoiler

The songs from that era are good though.  :lolly:
