I thought she flopped with this one

Sis the album was her highest opening week sales from all her albums , let alone platinum debut. I hope you know how glorifying and rare that is for 2017 going into 2018.

Lol I remember articles surfacing on the internet saying "could 1989 be the last album to have a platinum opening week debut" that's how bad the music state for albums was during 2014, you can only imagine how bad it must be now.

Awful ?

LWYMMD had a number one debut and the only reason it fell out was due to 0 promo

RFI debuted at #4 with 0 promo and was followed up with very little promo

End Game also had little promo , I think she only performed it once or twice and was backed up by no album hype and managed to chart in the top 20

Her era singles wise isn't Great but is surely Good, especially for today's standards.

There's still a bunch of songs with hit potential left on her Album, if only she chooses to promote them and give their music video budgets similar to LWYMMD, Bad Blood and Blank Space music videos.

thats awful for her standards but her tour is doing great so

She's been around for 12 years though and her past 4 albums have all debuted with 1 million. Since 3 out of 6 are country albums, the next one will be her 4th pure pop album and if the 4th album curse is true then its the next one but its highly unlikely

LWYMMD did what it could. The promo excuse is lousy considering she had all the attention she could get with this single and no performance on TV could change that. The video was promo enough since it got people talking. Everyone knew about the song, so it falling off the chart so fast shows that no matter how much promo she would've done it would STILL be the same result.

Ready For It wasn't even picked up by radio since, well, it sucked, according to many. No amount of promo would help it, because it seems the more people heard it the more they disliked it.

End Game had Ed freaking Sheeran and that's enough. Oh, and Future has a pretty decent fanbase as well. It didn't need promo either. It flopped because people aren't here for Taylor.

Actually, I'd say she's LUCKY she didn't do any promo because it would have completely destroyed her career BTW -style. Not only would she be disliked, but she'd also be inescapable and that would turn people COMPLETELY off.

The best thing she could do now - and what I think she WILL do - is release a country album next time. That'll save her in America. Worldwide? Probably not, but she was never as big as Gaga during her peak internationally, so whatever, I guess.

Besides the numbers, NO one is talking about Taylor Swift this era, and the one who does, is just to tell how much of a bitch she is.

For all the record breaking sales etc, Reputation has been such a non event after the LWYMMD vid.

When streaming completely dominates. I think pop girls (or pop as a whole) are really going to struggle, even more than now.

Reputation did huge numbers but it wasn't a spectacle like 1989. Kim really dented her brand/image.

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

At this rate, it's going to be the next album. Lack of promo isn't a valid excuse considering she's springboarding off the success of 1989 and LWYMMD is so controversial that the video is all she needs. So, promo or no promo, it looks like she's set to struggle in the future if even these factors can't help. RFI was similar to LWYMMD in lots of ways so I don't know why it couldn't be done. End Game has 2 big male names on it and is so mainstream that its failure is even more astonishing. I don't think she could possibly release any more hits with 2 consecutive flops. And of course, she's still contracted to do one of those videos of tour footage. If she was a smaller artist, she would have just thrown in the towel by this point, honestly. She's about to hit 30, a very hard time for female artists and if she takes a longer break, she's going to have even more problems. Once a female starts struggling to have hits, radio takes notice and stops supporting them to the same extent. And as for her album, while its in no way a flop, its not selling anywhere near as good as her past ones and has for the most part, been a non-event post-release. And her tour tickets are way too expensive which is drawing controversy and she can't do as many dates this time.

I think it was her plan to hide away a lot this era and focus on her relationship which has been both a blessing and a curse for her. On the one hand, she can focus on the things that really matter and make sure she isn't getting overexposed (she explicitly said to Kanye in that phone call that she was "this close to overexposure right now"). But on the other, promo can make or break an artist. It doesn't matter as much if she's not performing in America but failing to promote internationally is having a big effect on her right now. Her album fell to #8 in its second week and is only hovering in the UK top 20 because sales are that bad right now. She's at #16 this week. Paloma Faith is charting better than her (currently #11) almost every week and she's not had any hit singles this era, nor has she sold the amount of albums that Taylor has and she's 36 and has just had a child. That says a lot about how much Taylor's power has diminished due to largely ignoring the UK this era.

I don't get it why Reputation still made it to a hit for her.
It's a known fact that 1989 was awesome and Reputation could not follow up BUT how in the hell did it still manage to smash?
Although she is missing out hits this era - LWYMMD is kind of "I'm here" and "oops, I'm gone" - I still have this slight feeling that she is successful with this.
No artist ever should get into an era where he / she won't reach his / her peak again but ... let's face it, she will. I hope not to soon but ... yeah. Soon.

I'm the same, I don't know how she still sold so many copies despite reduced interest and a big scandal. Yeah, a lot of her fans were buying multiple copies to get different booklets and to get points to push them up the tour ticket queue, but come on. Does that stuff really make much of a difference? 1.2 million in the first week in the US and 2 million worldwide in a world of low album sales and with a damaged image and a lead single that was nowhere near as big as Shake It Off is very fishy. It's hard to believe that sales weren't somehow faked here considering that this era (and especially the lead single) has been aimed at fans and not the public.

holy scheisse

Well it's currently trendy to hate on Taylor Swift

And she's really not a hot topic like she was with 1989

So I imagine the next album will perform to a less successful caliber than 1989 and reputation.

her fanbase is growing. and growing old. As she is. They can not and should not be poppsy belt banger divas.

Everybody has it's time.

I predict the next to eras will show the decline in her reputation as top selling. Don't see nothing bad in that.

I fear for next ARI

Hope that FATM will hit with their fourth album. QUALITY FIRST
