Eventually saying that "the latest star to jump on the bandwagon and ditch all things electronic for guitars and an easier sound is Kesha."[158] Andrew Unterberger from Billboard, with his article "Miley Cyrus' 'Malibu' & New Album: Will It Be Her Version of Lady Gaga's Joanne?" goes on to say that Miley's description of her new album "sounded familiar upon first reading", because "it's not all that different from the rhetoric espoused by another left-of-center pop star [Gaga] preceding her own voyage back to the middle" and that "Cyrus' new music is taking her down a similar path."[159] Speaking of Miley's new direction Melissa Engelman in her Odyssey article "Did Miley Cyrus Copy Lady Gaga?" states that Miley is "taking a cue from the Mother Monster [Gaga] as a way to kick off her career apart from Hannah Montana."[160] Artists, such as Noah Cyrus (left) and Nelly Furtado(right) declared Joanne as a major influence in creating their own album. While reviewing Kesha's Rainbow, Spencer Kornhaber of The Atlantic said that "like Gaga with last year’s Joanne, Kesha trades thumping electro for analogue instruments and genres that, fairly or not, have an easier time being perceived as “authentic”: rock and roll, country, folk" and "also like Gaga, she tries to execute this turn while tamping down, but not altogether ditching, her previous persona."[161] In his Vanity Fair article, Josh Duboff wrote, "in returning to his “roots,” the seemingly countryfied Timberlake recalls the feel of Gaga’s Joanne era (which, aesthetically, was most notable for the pink cowboy hat she wore on the album’s cover and in many of the promotional stops)" and that "other pop stars—Miley Cyrus and Kesha among them—have recently pivoted from a more pop-focused sound to something rootsier."[162] Gary Trust in his Billboard article "With 'Million Reasons,' Is Lady Gaga Bringing Back 'The Vocalist Era'?" stated that "the ballad, driven by Gaga's powerhouse vocal, continues to surge at radio." In the same article, Rob Lucas from WTSS radio, "sees "Reasons" as part of a bigger musical picture, given the song's booming vocal, punctuated by Gaga's "I bow down to pray" high notes out of the verses." and that "we are entering a new era of traditional ballads and big vocals."[163] Artists like Noah Cyrus and Nelly Furtado acknowledged the impact Joanne has had on the writing process for their respective albums. In an interview with V, Noah said that she has "been stuck on Joanne", that "Gaga has just killed it and this year, with that album, she has really inspired me. She has always inspired me."[164] Also in Rolling Stone she said that "the country-infused Joanne, has served as her muse during the writing process album for her debut album in recent months."[165] While, Nelly shared on her Twitter account that Gaga got her "at the piano today because you are golden inspiration" with all caps hashtag Joanne.[166] Ultimately, Brad Wete from Billboard named Gaga's pink Joanne hat "pop's most recognizable accessory of the year."[167] Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
