No, this is different. A child cannot understand or consent to sex. Adult men and women can with each other. The laws may be extreme right now but this is done to save children as much as possible. You may say it's about attraction and he wouldn't "actually" do anything with a child. Well, someone clearly did to make that movie or pictures. It's about protecting those children. He actually did all this and paid people to have sex with children and gave them manuals. Yes rehabilitation should be focused on but the harshness of the laws really does stop people.

The problem is that, Mark wasn't masturbating to, like, cartoons. It wasn't fiction. It was real victims of abuse. If he had been, and had fought those urges/didn't have those real-life urges and just stuck to drawings or something, I would feel 100% different. At the end of the day, there are no ways to change your sexual preferences/fetishes/kinks/whatever you want to call them like that, and it's less about what he's into and more about what he's doing, and what he's endorsing in the process.

There are people who have gore fetishes, but don't kill people. You know what I mean? That's what it's about. In Mark's case, real children were involved, and that is what needed stopped.

I’m not supporting pedophiliasis. Maybe I’m not using the best example but all I wanted to say that is Mark probably doesn’t have a choice yet he had to killl himself to get himself out of this situation and it’s sad. I really think they should provide treatment instead of prison time.

I’m not really trying to support pedophiles or say it’s ok - I just think it’s something that we need to find a solution to and find ways to prevent this from happening.

the solution to paedophilia is to stop sexualizing children, especially young girls, and infancy, sadly both of these practices are incredibly common and normalized in our society. I find it VERY hard to sympathize with this situation, bc imo paedophiles/paedophilia are byproducts of the patriarchal system we live in, the pathologization of those things only serves to protect grown ass males from taking responsibility for their reprehensible and vile behaviour.

Please elaborate? Do you think pedophilia is a modern societal issue? Also why do you think only males are capable of such a horrible act?

I know I'm just repeating what dozens of others have already said, but the child p*** plus the suicide make it clear as day that Mark was suffering from his own mental health issues and very likely traumatized by abuse during his childhood. I'm not here to say we shouldn't condemn pedophilia, but I think it's just as important to recognize the cause of these issues as it is to discuss the result of the issues.
