Dark Anatomy 2,284 Posted January 27, 2018 Share Posted January 27, 2018 Watching the Joanne music video over the last 2 days, I couldn't help but feel that the video was deeper than beauty shots of Gaga in the woods. I mean sure, thats probably all it is, but upon further reflection I came up with a theory. What if the Joanne MV is telling two different stories? The black and white shots are actually GAGA; who we see cathartically writing the song of Joanne. We expeirence her journey in trying to rationalize the event that rocked her family, and gave her an identity. She is connected in so many ways to a woman she's never met, and feels it's an unresolved conflict in her family. Its also the driving force that inspires her to not just write the song, but assume her own identity of Joanne. Wearing the cowboy hat, playing guitar, going to dive bars, reconnecting with her sibling Natali. All of the things Gaga thought Joanne would have done if she had the chance to live. But then on a flip, the COLOR shots represent Joanne. The REAL Joanne, who exists in this 70s time warp limbo. Shes running around the woods, looking towards the light beyond the trees but unable to reach it, and the reason why she can't move on, why she is trapped, is because she has unresolved issues with her family. With Joe. So her story in this video is how she looks over Gaga, guiding her to write this song and album. However at the end of the video when Gaga is in the bar with her family (which represents the RELEASE OF THE JOANNE ALBUM if you recall) Joanne looks back one last time, then walks in the woods and finally moves on. Or youre just trying to make a joke so people can YASSS and LMAO react to your post. The shots in black and white are way more modern looking and synonymous with what WE know as the Joanne era. While The color shots are more vintage and adorned with 70s imagery. The time at which Joanne died. It's not like it's a overtly complex concept. PoshLife 16,998 Posted January 27, 2018 Share Posted January 27, 2018 Yeah I also noticed that the color shots have a 70s feel, especially what she's wearing, while the B&W footage looks more modern (I think you see recording equipment or something at one point, if I'm not mistaken?) Also, I wouldn't say it was Gaga's intention to just do a video of beautiful shots in the woods. I'm sure there is a deliberate meaning behind the two different scenes and I wouldn't be surprised if the real meaning is close to your theory. You can see that time has passed because when she is in the forest in the black and white part there is a train station and when it’s in color she is just running and there is nothing there as if it was before that existed.
