You’re problematic because you feel the need to discredit Gaga and her album in order to prove why Kesha should win. I like both of these women and it’s pointless to bash Gaga just to give Kesha props. You’re problematic because you do this in a very condescending way as if anyone who disagrees is just too much of a Gaga Stan to admit Joanne should lose and that Rainbow is superior. When did your opinion become law? When did liking an album by Gaga become a bad thing? Can we not genuinely like Joanne more than Rainbow? You’re problematic because you purposely name two songs on Joanne meant to be fun and enjoyable without a hidden deep sad meaning. There are so many songs on Joanne that are deep: Joanne, Angel Down, Million Reasons, Diamond Heart, Grigio Girls.

So yes, you’re problematic. Stop putting down Gaga and those who enjoy Joanne and see the beauty in it.

Done here. Have nice night.

"Joanne" production was actually one of the most disappointing things from this album. I mean, she worked with Mark Ronson, BloodPop, BECK, KEVIN PARKER, and the final result is miles, miles away from what you could expect from these top-notch producers. And no, it's not because it's "simple", it's because it's basic production (for example, I think Dope, as simple as it might be, is very well produced).

For me, I don't think there's a particularly excellent album from all the nominees for Best Pop Vocal Album. Each one has a reason why it could win the award, but none actually excels. Last year's were way, way more deserving.

Bias aside, I have to agree. In no way is Rainbow a better album that Joanne but it was more of a surprise for listeners who may have written her off.

For the artistic growth alone, I would be okay with Kesha picking up a Grammy. But I don't believe it would be based on merit.

Praying deserves for performance, Joanne deserves for album and that's that on that :fthis:

MR is a beautiful in large part due its simplicity, and if gaga wins both I won't complain, but Praying did so much more and truly is THAT song imo

Why can’t we view the nomination itself as the accolade? And the award as icing on the cake. Both Kesha and Gaga deserve to be nominated, though I feel like Gaga deserved a few more, particularly noms in AOTY or SOTY. Whoever actually “wins” the trophy is just lucky. It all boils down to secret deals and backdoor politics really.

How people can pretend all the critiques were about her and not the music this time around is beyond me. With art pop? Sure. But not this time

Critics also boosted their reviews towards Raibow because she was able to come back strong after it looked like she was gone. On the other hand Joanne was set back a bit by critics simply because of their personal opinions towards her career. This is a case were the student that always gets A' s is not celebrated, but as soon as an F student gets something like a B, he gets far more praised than the A student.

I partly think this as well. I like Rainbow but I don't think it's worth an 81 critical score on MetaCritic. I think she's still finding her feet and will get better with time, but Rainbow isn't her opus just yet. Joanne is far superior, which is why I want it to win, although the academy tend to go for the album with the best critical reception. I think the critics really wanted Kesha's new work to be so good considering her situation, to the point where they thought it was better than it was. I mean, some of the songs sounded not unlike work from her previous albums, just not as electronic-based and autotuned. She's still being a bit wild and swearing and so forth, all the stuff she did before. So, what are critics seeing now that they didn't see before? Perspective is a hell of a concept, that's all I can say. I'm not saying I know for a fact that critics deliberately gave her a higher score than they genuinely felt but I just think it's highly unlikely had it not been for her situation, that she would have got so much praise. I like your straight A student analogy, yeah, I think we do tend to over-praise those who don't normally excel. I think it's hammered into us that encouragement is the key to self-improvement. And true, encouraging someone can cause them to want to do better, but perhaps we shouldn't give them ultimate encouragement (in this case, a Grammy), until they actually reach a higher standard of self-improvement. Plus, I don't want the praise of Kesha to get a bit too much. It might all be a case of "too much, too soon." To go from no Grammy nominations to getting 2, having the practical guarantee of winning at least one and performing at the awards, it might cause her to regress. Too fast a turnaround can blow up in your face further down the line. Basically, when too much pressure is put on people, they can crumple. I want Kesha to keep getting better from here on out, so that if any future albums get nominated, she'll truly deserve the award. To me, Rainbow is the start of better things to come, not the end goal.

Kesha doesn't deserve the Grammys like many here are saying. Gaga does. People want her to win mostly because it would be a feel good moment after all the she went through. Now if you say her album is good, I would agree. But it definitely is not better than Gaga in terms of anything. For the most part, Gaga's Joanne and MR have better vocals, better lyrics, and a more creative production. Let's also not forget that Gaga sort of set the inspiration with both sound and themes for artists like Kesha,  Miley, and others. These artists might have done something similar to Joanne before Joanne, but Joanne set the compete current tone of stripped back, personal, organic, country, folk, rock, mixture. Critics also boosted their reviews towards Raibow because she was able to come back strong after it looked like she was gone. On the other hand Joanne was set back a bit by critics simply because of their personal opinions towards her career. Looks like you’re being hypocritical of her. Jeez it’s a god damn nomination award and a trophy. get a life.

Nnnnn Joanne is good and deserves the Grammy but didn’t set any current. It’s something that artists have already done in the past. “Going back to the roots - oh look, this is me with only my voice”.

I'd throw a bit of shade but I’m too tired:emma:.
