Doot 2
I think the thing that needs to be understood is “I love this song!” Does not equal “radio friendly commercial smash club bop”

With a decent radio edit that cuts out a chunk of the spoken intro, it could've been huge. I agree. A radio edit + a sick music video! I think her YT power started to decrease after TEOG-YAI-MTN. Scheisse would keep "darkGa" stans around

I don't see how it's remotely radio or GP friendly. I think it would've done awful as a single. Would've been amazing if she did a Beautiful Dirty Rich/John Wayne deal and given us a video, though. 1 hour ago, Sneaky Oliver said: I don’t think it would smash. Same with Scheisse. BTW, TEOG and YAI should be the only singles from BTW. Playing safe! (I love MTN btw) 1 hour ago, OBEY said: HML smashed in the club? LOVE the song, a highlight on BTW for sure and in her discography, but radios and clubs would never play that song its not radio friendly at all. 1 hour ago, Mister Gaga said: She needed a rest. 3 years of pop culture domination, the GP was already tired of her by MTN And also, HML might be a great song, but by no means is radio material. BTW's singles were actually well picked imo. The problem was the order (TEOG should have been the 2nd, Judas the 3rd). I greatly disagree. Opening the era with Mary the Night could have changed everything. It would have smashed much harder than Born This Way did and with longevity. The Edge of Glory could have been second I suppose. But I think Heavy Metal Lover, Sheisse, Americano and even Government Hooker all had strong radio potential. They're songs that at first listen the average consumer might not latch onto, but like Bad Romance I think they would have been growers and with the era starting off with MTN as the correct lead (it was the og lead afterall), it wouldve then allowed for subsequent singles to do better than the singles they actually chose following Born This Way. Marry the Night smashing would have engaged consumers to allow themselves to enter the gaudy soundscape of Born This Way the album. The problem in reality was that no one was interested in what she had to offer following Born This Way the single being so corny and divisive. It was with its release that she totally lost her edge imo. And in losing her edge, songs like Heavy Metal Lover and Marry the Night never stood a chance. They needed her persuasive powers to be able to smash, because they had the potential and she owned pop music at that time. She just made the wrong move and it jeopardized the eras success imo. And quite honestly Sheisse was a radio and club smash that never was, especially in the context of 2011. it was always really strange to me that her team completely ignored it. even with it meaning sh*t it still could have been serviced to radio honestly. But honestly, what I was saying was that Marry the Night was the superior single. And had she lead with it like she was originally going to, it would have been a much larger hit with better longevity on the charts. Whereas Born This Way was #1 for like 6 weeks and then fell off, I think Marry the Night would have stayed on the charts. Born This Way was corny and divisive and with its backlash she lost all her power. On paper it is undeniably a success, but in all honesty I think it was actually what triggered the loosening of her vice grip on pop culture.
Zombiecat 16,778
Didn't she at one point say all the songs would be singles? and have music videos

I used to have a freeware photo editing thing on my phone in 2011 that had the exact same filter with the scratches. My ex's girlfriend (no longer a hunty? ) used to have it as her cover photo on Facebook (the filter, not the cover. She was too shook by Gaga to ever like her. ) bannedT for life and it's SAD
