Breathe 2
It affects everyone though, so I personally think as long as there's no Adele or Taylor Swift around we'd be fine.
PaperIz 7,308
i think for something like billboard that's smart. because it uses a bunch of different factors to really chose a successful song. Human generated art

Pips 0
This probably sounds stupid, and I know it's not true, but does nayone feel that there's this sort of giant anti-gaga plot going on with the music industry in general right now?? Like, this new billboard thing, when Katy Perry won BEST LIVE ACT WTF, adele won evvverrryyythinnnggg at the grammy's, not to mention the VMA's last year were just ****. ************. I know it's not true, and Adele totally deserved all the grammy's and ****, but I can't help but feeling that she's getting snubbed a lot lately. idk,. Well in regards to Billboard, they reacted to the .99 cent deal by not allowing those to count anymore for the first 4 weeks an album is released. Everyone is right, though. I just mean this could potentially impact Gaga negatively IF she doesn't get radio backing, but it does affect all artists. It will, in turn, benefit artists that always have radio on their side (Katy, Rihanna, etc,).

Magoo 6
Okay, so using the calculations to determine where Born This Way (song) would be if it were released today would still put it at #1 because it had a lot of airplay and a radio deal. It's also worth noting that right now there aren't any songs selling over 250K, so it would be a good time to debut a single. A few weeks ago (or even a majority of the year) she wouldn't have debuted at #1. Born This Way 448(.62) + 78(.80) + 100(.05) = 344 compared to Call Me Maybe: 193 (.62) + 183(.80) + 980(.05) = 315 Interesting. So going backwards from now weekly, these are the number of Billboard points for each #1 by the same formula: CMM 319 (now), 341, 349, 352, 367, 355 STIUYK (to Jun 8th) 357, 363, 397, 416, 421, 414, 463, 512 WAY (to Apr 13th) 470, 438, 436, 381, 340, 332 So BTW's 344 points would only beat the earliest and most recent of those weeks Boyfriend got 434 points when WAY got 438 Part Of Me got its debut #1 on the old formula but by the new formula would be only 293 points (and would probably have been beaten by Adele SFTTR 299 points) in a very weak week. Wide Awake might yet get #1 by taking advantage of when the points are lowest. So timing is indeed important.

I thought those Friday releases were stupid before and it's even worse now.

Klou 2,414
Can someone tell me why we should give a f* about billboard ? Because some of us find the charts interesting and want Gaga to succeed ;) It IS a measure of success, by the way...
Rollercoaster 2
Isn't it meant to be a chart of what's most popular with the purchasing public in any given week? Why should airplay count at all unless it's only request shows. Just because radio plays it, doesn't mean anyone likes it.
JPM 781
The solution is simple: everyone buys a copy of the single, uses Spotify to listen to the song instead of iTunes, and requests the song like crazy on radio. ' THIS :D LOL
Sexxx 5,533
As long as she releases the single on a Monday, the radio problem won't affect it's position (on the charts)
